BOLD means I saw it in theaters.
January
- Taking Woodstock (Bad. Annoying. Some scenes took entirely too long. The lack of any concert screen time was a real cop out.)
- Special (Good. Second viewing. I love movies that do a good job of blending funny and sad. Mix it with comic book theory and mental illness and you have a surefire winner in my book.)
- Sherlock Holmes (Bad. Consistently boring throughout. Nothing stood out enough to make me care about anything.)
- Crazy Heart (Good. Jeff Bridges disappears into the role. I could've watched him play all day.)
- Blazing Saddles (Good. Possibly 5th or 6th viewing. One of, if not my favorite comedy movie.)
- Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (Bad. Painful. I'm not someone who is easily offended by the content of movies, but this one is offensive on a shocking number of levels.)
- Being John Malkovich (Good. 2nd viewing. I am amazed and so thankful that every actor that participated in this movie was crazy enough to say yes.)
- Inglorious Basterds (Good. I had the privilege of reading the script a year before its release. Although I knew of everything before it happened, viewing it was just as exciting, funny, and satisfying as the read.)
- The Carter (Good. The reason this doc is watchable because Lil Wayne is watchable. There isn't really a story or even any standout scene, but it's a time capsule of one of the most interesting characters in entertainment around today)
- Big Fan (Good. I love Patton Oswald. I'm happy to see that he's a great actor. I'm into good sad movies. Can't help but feel for this guy who'll never change for the better.)
- Monster (Good. Charlize Theron is terrifying.)
- A Night at the Opera (Good. Marx Brothers movies are such an unconditional joy to watch. I wish I could play the piano like Chico.)
- Black Snake Moan (Bad. I knew this movie was garbage on film years before I put the DVD in my computer. I thought it would be at least fun garbage. I was wrong.)
- Annie Hall (Good. I feel like it would be so fun to make a movie like this. I always feel a little bummed out when it ends. I could easily watch another 45 minutes tacked on to this stuff.)
February
- In the Loop (Good. I didn't really enjoy it, though. I thought the dialogue was very smart and some of the characters were really fun to watch, but I couldn't help but tune out after awhile. Oh, well.)
- Shine a Light (Good. You know how sometimes there's a really great looking concert in a movie and you wish it wouldn't cut away back to the story? This is how this movie felt, but thankfully it stayed with the band the whole time. Lots of fun.)
- Stripes (Good. But not great. The movie is pretty much floats on the charm that can only be derived from a 30 year old Bill Murray. Stripes is famous for its graduation scene. Everything immediately after is pretty dumb.)
- Moon (Good. I was expecting a great little movie about a lonely guy losing his mind on the moon, which would have been good enough. It's way better than that.)
- Amélie (Good. I loved it from the first minute. All I knew before seeing this movie is that people like it a lot. It's a fun little ride.)
- Justice: A Cross the Universe (Good. More of a montage of the crazy shit that went down on their tour than a documentary. Funniest wedding scene in any move I've watched.)
