  • Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased. - cs lewis

I mean the God who invented the tree in my front yard, the beauty of my sweetheart, the taste of a blueberry, the violence of a river at flood. • I was by myself for a pretty long time. I needed to do that. I think everyone that I know has wanted to do that or needed to do that at some point. I think when you spend enough time when it’s quiet around you and you don’t open your mouth for three or four days, there’s parts of your brain that can kind of rest. I think when we’re out in the world and we have to talk to people, we edit ourselves. You know, we have to like, act a little bit. As honest as we may be as humans, when we’re out here, we’re all kind of wearing mirrors on our faces. You know, constantly reacting to how to react to the people around you. • Literature is invention. Fiction is fiction. To call a story a true story is an insult to both art and truth. Every great writer is a great deceiver, but so is that arch-cheat Nature. • The Bible’s purpose is not so much to show you how to live a good life. The Bible’s purpose is to show you how God’s grace breaks into your life against your will and saves you from the sin and brokenness otherwise you would never be able to overcome… religion is ‘if you obey, then you will be accepted’. But the Gospel is, ‘if you are absolutely accepted, and sure you’re accepted, only then will you ever begin to obey’. Those are two utterly different things. Every page of the Bible shows the difference. — Tim Keller

Invite the people who love you to call you to more, to help you break through the patterns of sin you've lived with so long you don't even notice them anymore. Where there's genuine love, challenge doesn't call the relationship or your identity into question, but affirms them. Genuine love says, "I see who you really are, who God made you to be, and I want more for you." - Jacey, Naptime Diaries

  • When you don't see any startling marks of your own religious condition or your usefulness to God, think of the baby in the stable and the little boy in the streets of Nazareth. The very life was there which was to change the whole history of the human race. There was not much to show for it. But there is entire continuity between the stable and the Easter garden and the thread that unites them is the will of God. The childlike simple prayer of Nazareth was the right preparation for the awful privilege of the Cross. Just so the light of Spirit is to unfold gently and steadily within us, till at last our final stature, all God designed for us, is attained. • lukelezon: You can't fully commit to God without fully surrendering to God. Often times we try to hold onto other areas of our life and simultaneously hold onto God. We get caught up in trying to please people, that sin we can't seem to shake, idolizing a relationship, and so many other things instead of surrendering it all over to God and committing to Him entirely. He can do more in a moment than our minds could ever comprehend. Surrender those roadblocks, dead ends, things in your life over to God that keep you from seeing Him clearly, feeling His love, and understanding that He is able to do immeasurably more in your life. The Bible reminds us of this: When it feels like there are no moves to be made, that's when God moves the most. Trust in Him, surrender it all to Him. You're loved with a love that surpasses knowledge, is beyond understanding, and knows you by name. You're loved by Love.
  • “If you feel, when you are interacting with God, that it is high stakes. If you tell yourself ‘If I miss it or make the wrong decision here, my whole destiny is ruined.’ Or if you tell yourself ‘There is only one way to get to who God wants to me be and if I choose the wrong door, I’m not going to get there.’ That is not the voice of God. Wouldn’t it be a cruel joke if it was dependent on us to get everything right? What would be the point of Jesus dying on the cross if we could eventually then ‘earn it again’?” - Abi Stumvoli
  • Words you will never hear God say: "The depth of my affection for you is dependent on you." "I expected you to do better." "You aren't allowed to participate until you are perfect." "I would rather you attempt to be holy than be honest." "You are more deaf than my ability to communicate." - Abi Stumvoli

  • We have to be braver than we think we can be, because God is constantly calling us to be more than we are. -

  • If we commit ourselves to one person for life, this is not, as many people think, a rejection of freedom; rather, it demands the courage to move into all the risks of freedom, and the risk of love which is permanent; into that love which is not possession but participation.

-Madeleine L'Engle

  • I like to take the time out to listen to the trees, much in the same way that I listen to a sea shell, holding my ear against the rough bark of the trunk, hearing the inner singing of the sap. It's a lovely sound, the beating of the heart of the tree.- Madeleine L'Engle
  • To pray is to listen, to move through my own chattering to God, to that place where I can be silent and listen to what God may have to say. - Madeleine L'Engle
  • “In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart. ” - John Bunyan
  • God must strengthen the light in us before the spotlight is placed on us.- Lysa TerKeurst
  • "First of all - Congratulations! Proud of you! I'm sure there are nuggets across the whole village, but my thoughts would be - remember to take a regular day off, remember to fuel your own fire - keep investing in your own relationship with Jesus. Remember you need time in see friends, date, do life - don't neglect you or your life on the altar of ministry. Remember you don't need to have all the answers - some situations will be beyond you , will need professional help etc - don't be afraid to acknowledge your limitations, and make sure you know all the resources around you. And finally - have a team - and make sure alongside serving together, you celebrate, eat and play together once in awhile. A middle school team that plays together, doesn't kill the children...." - Jo Saxton

Don’t spend time with people who make you feel less than you are. Don’t get stuck in the past, and don’t try to fast-forward yourself into a future you haven’t earned yet. Give today all the love and intensity and courage you can, and keep traveling honestly along life’s path." - Shauna Niequist
