Read (MY FAVES)

  • The Complete Canon of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
    • Fave phrases:
      • "My name is Sherlock Holmes. It is my business to know what other people don’t know."
      • "Come at once if convenient — if inconvenient come all the same." (This is the best line from Sherlock to Watson, ever! XD)
      • "Never trust to general impressions, my boy, but concentrate yourself upon details."
      • "It is a capital mistake to theorize in advance of the facts. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts."
      • “Excellent!” I cried. “Elementary,” said he."
      • "Women are naturally secretive, and they like to do their own secreting."
      • "Education never ends, Watson. It is a series of lessons with the greatest for the last."
      • "You and I, Watson, we have done our part. Shall the world, then, be overrun by oysters? No, no; horrible! You'll convey all that is in your mind." (The time Sherlock pretends to be dying!)
  • Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
    • Fave phrases:
      • "I have seen the fracture of the human soul. So many broken lives, so much pain and anger, giving way to the poison of deep grief, until one crime became many. I have always wanted to believe that man is rational and similised. My very existence depends upon this hope, upon order and methods and the little grey cells, but now perhaps I am asked to listen instead to my heart. I have understood in this case that the scales of justice cannot always be evenly weighed and I must learn for once to live with the imbalance." (Hercule Poirot); my favorite line of him! T_T
      • "Crime is an anomaly. Murder is a fracture of the soul."
      • "But I know human nature, my friend, and I tell you that, suddenly confronted with the possibility of being tried for murder, the most innocent person will lose his head and do the most absurd things."
      • "And whatever people say, there is right and there is wrong. There is no in-between."
      • "The scales of justice cannot always be equally weighed." (This is so important, it'll come to an exam!)
  • And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
    • Fave phrases:
      • "Be sure thy sin will find thee out."
      • "Ulick Norman Owen—Una Nancy Owen—each time, that is to say, U. N. Owen. Or by a slight stretch of fancy, UNKNOWN!” (This is such a huge spoiler hehe, sorry!)
  • The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
    • Fave phrases:
      • "One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving."
      • "There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure."
      • "It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting."
      • "And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."
  • The Last Leaf by O. Henry
    • Fave phrases:
      • "Young artists must pave their way to Art by drawing pictures for magazine stories that young authors write to pave their way to Literature."
      • "The lonesomest thing in all the world is a soul when it is making ready to go on its mysterious, far journey. The fancy seemed to possess her more strongly as one by one the ties that bound her to friendship and to earth were loosed." (Talk about dying...)
