turning 30 is damn difficult - mentally, emotionally, a little physically. it is the earliest in-my-face reminder of the reality that i am going to die dunno when. or worse, get married.

depressing.

so i had to get shit done. and i mean a lot of shit. and i have figured that to get shit done it has to be done quietly.

when i was a kid, my classmates got the latest airmax shoes, pencil cases, slam books, NBA cards, gameboys, superNES games...

i never had any one of those. my parents couldnt afford em.

you can say i grew up surrounded by everyone having everything while i have nothing but what was required to have. or less even.

as an adult, i am glad that i can now afford to get myself the latest and greatest consumerist shit.

but i am glad even more that ive learned as a kid i dont need the latest and greatest consumerist shit.

that i need nothing else but only what is required to have. saves me a lot of money, time, stress, and living space you know.

i have already learned a lot halfway through my set of SAP HANA trainings, not only about HANA itself.

  • these young trainers from SAP Labs love their work so much. i can see why they end up being highly paid.
  • i do not know shit when i was their age. such waste of years.
  • i might get a SAP C_HANATEC_1 certification and explore HANA opportunities if i pass. in-memory databases are indeed the future, and ultra-fast databases are really sexy.
  • my SAP classroom trainings cost as much as an HDB downpayment. yep, expensive!
  • my office desk is the worst place in my world right now. must be burnout. i feel better being here in a classroom far away from my office desk. i want to be far away from my office desk.
  • ive been thinking about taking up **MSCS ...

i no longer take pictures with an SLR. i gave Sirius (my good ol' Canon EOS 450D) to my Dad last Christmas. i found everything that i need in a neat, little, awesome photography machine called the Olympus OM-D. it is of micro 4/3s format, and i named mine Darling.

and alec being alec i am going to complain about it after travelling with it for the first time.

  • takes 2 secs to startup. quite slow for me. missed a few moments because of this.
  • EVF (electronic view finder) is slow to show up too.
  • battery life sucks. i need 2 batteries for a day's shoot without even using a flash.
  • speaking of flash, i miss the flash sometimes. it does not have a built-in one.
  • took me a while to understand the menus. so complicated!
  • the buttons and controls are still confus...

one of the best things I've ever learned while being alone is how to learn alone. yup. found out I can learn how to learn. alone.

exhibit A. they say you should take swimming lessons to learn the difficult butterfly stroke. well, it is like doing push ups, pull ups, core exercises, leg lifts, sit ups, squats, and macho dancing all at once while holding your breath. it is that difficult. seriously.

but I like challenges so I say nah. i broke down the butterfly stroke into smaller stuffs, figured out each smaller stuff, and put them all together. here are the smaller stuffs:

  • learn the breast stroke. specifically, the breathing part.
  • learn the dolphin kick. if you are a horny guy, this should be easy lol
  • build triceps and chest strength with pus...

at this age and type of work, i find that 13 countries before 30 is relatively lame.

  • Bahrain. 2005. work. i was 21. i was alone. how eye-opening is that.
  • Pakistan. 2006. work. i spent my 23rd birthday here alone. hotel gave me birthday cake. i ate it alone. how fcked up is that.
  • UAE. 2006. work. one day stopover. back when everything we know about dubai was under construction.
  • Singapore. 2007. first travel abroad for pleasure.
  • Hongkong. 2008. first time to experience leading the way for a group. confirmed to myself im good at designing itineraries. but not at being patient with nagiinarteng people.
  • Macau. 2008. i wanna come back here to bungee jump. couldnt afford it before.

to ignore is a practical and critical life skill. ignoring a lot of things makes my life simpler and more peaceful. and blissful, so they say.

here are some of the things that when i ignore, i am at peace:

  • my boss
  • my boss's boss
  • the alarm. especially on mondays.
  • "WARNING:Could not lower the asynch I/O" messages in the alert log of a 10.2.0.5 database
  • those tablespaces marked YELLOW in my daily DB utilization report
  • attention-seekers. i just love ignoring them!
  • my attention-seeking seatmate in TADM10 and TADM12. he's so annoying, out-of-context, and inappropriately chatty.
  • my seatmate at work to my west. the korean refers to him as curly-curly lol.

  • Cagayan de Oro. reserved to be visited with the BFFs (batch five friends).
  • Bukidnon. my mom's father died and was buried here when she was 3 years old. she has never seen his resting place.
  • Batanes. the place just looks so lovely, so photogenic..
  • Amanpulo. of course. and why not?
