November

  • (28) 12 Angry Men (1957) dir. Sidney Lumet, USA crime, drama (film club; new favourite film, loved the court drama)
  • (23) A Wish for Christmas (2016) dir. Christie Will Wolf, Canada, USA drama, family (such a bad bad Christmas film, so boring, bad acting, predictable, cheap, made me feel nothing)
  • (22) Larry Crowne (2011) dir. Tom Hanks, USA comedy, drama, romance (quite a boring film, no conflict, but you can tell the actors had fun playing in it - although that is not enough for me to have a good opinion on this wannabe feel good film)
  • (22) A Christmas Prince (2017) dir. Alex Zamm, USA romance, comedy (Netflix; okay, not the best film out there, very predictable, but with a little bit of charm nonetheless, plus it was filmed in Romania)

October

  • (21) Death Note (2017) dir. Adam Wingard, USA crime, drama, supernatural, thriller (Netflix; witch Matty, Serj, Cucu, Burca & hubby; it is really bad... basically ruined the entire story and made it boring as hell, I fell asleep)
  • (13) Searching for Sugar Man (2012) dir. Malik Bendjelloul, Sweden, UK, Finland documentary, biography, music (watched at Ecouri in Social, UBB college, with Gina, Matt and every other sociology student; it was nice, and the discussion afterwards was great too)

September

  • (29) Casablanca (1942) dir. Michael Curtiz, USA drama, romance, war (finally watched this classic, it was really nice, not as romantic as I expected, I really enjoyed it)
  • (16) Dirty Dancing (1987) dir. Emile Ardolino, USA drama, music, romance (finally made the time to see this film, it is really nice and the music and dancing is lovely)
  • (16) Lilo & Stitch (2002) dir. Dean DeBlois, Chris Sanders, USA animation, adventure, sci-fi, family, comedy, drama (rewatch; I just love Lilo & Stitch)
  • (2) The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009) dir. Tom Six, Netherlands horror (this was actually not bad, just a bit boring and they could've made it better)
  • (2) Zombeavers (2014) dir. Jordan Rubin, USA horror, comedy (rewatch; with Laura and the gang, at her house, laughing our asses off)

August

  • (9) Trespass (2011) dir. Joel Schumacher, USA, Bulgaria crime, thriller (watch in my hometown with mum, on TV, it was quite nice and we definitely couldn't go to sleep until it was over - my mum is a huge fan of thrillers)

July

  • (30) Pauline à la plage (Pauline at the Beach) (1983) dir. Éric Rohmer, France comedy, drama, romance (I missed watching a foreign film, especially a French film because the feeling and the directing is so different and the story is simple, yet charming)
  • (29) Attack of the Jurassic Shark (2012) dir. Brett Kelly, Canada action (watched at Laura's with lots of people - it's like we have a bad movie club; it was bad, amusing, but awful)
  • (22) Zootopia (2016) dir Jared Bush, Byron Howard, USA animation, adventure, mystery, family, comedy (watched with Musty, the dog; I love it, it was so much fun and full of lessons and adorableness)
  • (21) Inside Out (2015) dir. Pete Docter, Ronnie Del Carmen, USA animation, family, comedy, drama, adventure (watched with Musty, the dog; lovely film about emotions and sadness and joy and ah, why did it take me so much to watch it?)
  • (11) Despicable Me 3 (2017) with coworkers at the cinema
  • (2) Going Clear: Scientology & the Prison of Belief (2015) dir. Alex Gibney, USA documentary (I made a bit of obsession on Scientology, well, most religions have this impact on me, but this cult is just crazy)
  • (1) Cleopatra (1963) dir. Joseph L. Mankiewicz, USA, Switzerland, UK biography, drama, romance, history (a bit too long, but entertaining enough because of the decor, costumes and actors, the story not so much and I think I wanted to see and feel more of Cleopatra rather than what it showed)

June

  • (30) Wonder Woman (2017) dir. Patty Jenkins, USA, China, Hong Kong, UK, Italy, Canada, New Zealand action, adventure, fantasy, war (cinema; with OMD; really enjoyed it, it was spectacular)

May

  • (1) Batman (1989) dir. Tim Burton, USA, UK action, adventure (watched it because apparently May 1st is the unofficial Batman day - I also got a bunch of comics, it was a tad bit boring on the Batman side, the Joker just steals the show)

April

  • (17) 102 Dalmatians (2000) dir. Kevin Lima, USA, UK adventure, comedy, family (watched on an evening during our Easter vacation, on TVR 2 - they don't show ads during the film, and it was fun, it's nothing much but it is good to relax on the evening)
  • (7) The Tourist (2010) dir. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, USA, France, Italy, UK action, romance, thriller (it is by no means a good film, but it is funny and it can be entertaining - neither of the main actors, Angie and Depp, make an impression, but the episodic characters are really good)

March

  • (4) Iris (2014) dir. Albert Maysles, USA documentary, biography (oh, how I loved this documentary and how nice and sweet and inspiring it was, I love fluffy, colorful documentaries like this one and Bill Cunningham makes a few appearances)
  • (4) Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) dir. Stephen Frears, UK biography, comedy, drama (it was sweet, and I really enjoyed Howard from TBBT in this one)

February

  • (20) Jackie (2016) dir. Pablo Larraín, Chile, France, USA biography, drama (Portman carries this film splendidly, it was not what I expected but I really liked the surprise)
  • (20) Fences (2016) dir. Denzel Washington, USA drama (I loved Davis so much in this one, and it is a really strong movie, the performances are what matter the most and the dialogue, of course)
  • (19) Hidden Figures (2016) dir. Theodore Melfi, USA biography, drama, history (I really enjoyed it, it is inspiring and really nice, it is that kind of film that lifts you up and puts you in a good mood)
  • (17) Hell or High Water (2016) dir. David Mackenzie, USA action, crime, drama, western (I think it has some good parts, but the pacing and story bored me a bit; while it has unexpected scenes and all, the dialogue is not that gripping to keep my eyes on the screen)
  • (17) Hacksaw Ridge (2016) dir. Mel Gibson, Australia, USA drama, history, war (made after real people and events, the war film from the Oscars this year - much better than in the precedent years, I really enjoyed it, although war films are definitely not my cup of tea)
  • (17) Moonlight (2016) dir. Barry Jenkins, USA drama (I think I found my favourite film from this year's Oscars, it does seem like #OscarsSoWhite did its job and they considered more films - I just hope people won't think this one is nominated just because of that hashtag, because it's a great film)
  • (16) Lion (2016) dir. Garth Davis, Australia, USA, UK drama (made after real people and events, the first half of it is really really nice, but then the tone kinda shifts and it's not bad, the main actor is great, I just wasn't as interested, but it was nice)
  • (16) Manchester by the Sea (2016) dir. Kenneth Lonergan, USA drama (I need to think about this one... because at times I was into it, other times it was really boring - the acting is good, but instead of making me feel for it, although I enjoyed the realism of the characters and all that, it made me feel like it was a bit pretentious or maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it)
  • (15) Fifty Shades Darker (2017) dir. James Foley, USA drama, romance (cinema; with Anca and Simona from work; I mean, it's bad and I did not even watch the first film, but I went to have fun with the girls and you can make it be fun - it's plotless and twistless and boring, but with a creative mind you can make it be fun and entertaining)
  • (10) La La Land (2016) dir. Damien Chazelle, USA drama, musical, romance (it was quite heartbreaking, and fun, and colorful, and still another one that I had way bigger expectations for, but whatever, the ideas of the film still stand true and strong - and it made me think a lot about dreams and love and more)
  • (10) Arrival (2016) dir. Denis Villeneuve, USA drama, mystery, sci-fi (I think the opinions of others made me have way higher expectations from this film, which is why I feel so meh now... it is not bad, it was interesting, quite delicate visually and emotionally, with nice concepts on alien arrival, communication, time and knowing the future; it is complex indeed, it just did not get to me the way I expected it to)
  • (07) Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002) dir. Kelly Asbury, Lorna Cook, USA animation, adventure, family (Neflix; watching with my little cousin, Gabi, she really enjoyed it, and it was cute, with really nice lessons and stuff, but not entertaining enough for me or if you are not that into horses, not enough comedy for an animation for my taste)
  • (04) Surf's Up 2: WaveMania (2017) dir. Henry Yu, USA animation, comedy, family (cinema in Calarasi; with my little cousins and Alecs, it was quite boring and I slept and then read, but then it got more fun so the second part I was able to enjoy along with my cousins - penguins, surf and wrestlers, what could you want more?)
  • (03) Happy Feet 2 (2011) dir. George Miller & more, Australia animation, family, comedy (Netfix; watched with my cousins- Gabi & Miru, it was really cute and fun, not as dramatic as the first film, but an enjoyable film for the little ones, and way more amusing)

January

  • (28) The Remains of the Day (1993) dir. James Ivory, USA, UK drama, romance (I do not really see where the romance is, but it had the same tone as the book, though I bet it was not easy to do it - it is a quiet and slow paced film, but it makes the atmosphere and adds to its charm)
  • (06) The Fundamentals of Caring (2016) dir. Rob Burnett, USA comedy, drama (Netflix; what a fun heartwarming film that just makes you feel good, with great characters and acting, also, awesome road trips and life lessons)
