  • You're only in your twenties for 10 years, don't rush it. And try not to get pregnant either.
  • You most likely won't find your husband in college, so quit acting like every guy you meet in class is "the one".
  • No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up... ESPECIALLY if there's free food.
  • The ways that you are imperfect allow people to connect to you and love you even more. I found my life best friends in college this way.
  • Even if you forget to turn in an assignment, turn it in a day late anyways and ask the teacher to at least "make sure you did it right" or for "SOME credit rather than none". Every time I did this, I received full credit even though it was late.
  • Get your nose pierced, dye your hair funky, get all that out of your system bc you won't be able to do this when you're working in the real world (unless you become a tattoo artist, then that's a different story).
  • All-nighters DO NOT work. It's better to not study & get a full 8 hrs worth of rest than to stay up the entire night studying and feel like a zombie during exam. Grades end up being better when you sleep. You'll have plenty of time for all-nighters when you have a baby. Save your sanity for when that time comes.
  • Take Vitamin C because it is a PAIN in the rear when you get sick and mommy isn't there to take care of you. Trust me, I spent many nights puking at 4am and the only faithful ones by my side the entire night were the trashcans and toilets.
  • Just because you fail a class doesn't mean you're "dumb". It means you persevered/exercised perseverance. You had the opportunity to "drop" the class knowing that you might fail, but you stayed in the class & took the risk anyways. There will be many times in life when you'll be tempted to quit, but it's the risk taking and perseverance that makes you successful-- even if the result is failure.
  • Your roommates will be your best teachers. Teacher of self-discovery, teacher of mistakes, teacher of patience, teacher of commitment, and teacher of confrontation. Learn from them. Take notes if necessary.
  • Buy yourself a $25 dollar itunes giftcard for your "school supplies". It will go a long ways compared to highlighters, binders & sticky notes.
  • DO NOT buy your books. Rent them off chegg.com -- you will save hundreds of dollars by doing this. (literally).
  • Don't study in your bed. You'll never get anything done. Your bed is for sleep... don't confuse your brain by associating your bed with something other than a resting haven.
  • Find mentors while you're in college. They are pivotal during your transition into early adulthood & they will most likely mentor you all the way to their grave. Join their yoga class, stalk them at the grocery store, do anything to be near them & learn from them. After all, we are the generation after them.
