- taking the elevator the maximum possible number of floors in a building
- extreme upper and lower floors in a building that are not accessible by elevator
- taking the elevator a reasonable number of floors, but for an unusual trip that no doubt inconveniences anyone else who might be in the elevator (ex. B to 2, 3 to 6)
- elevators with separate front and back doors--so you plan your trip such that you enter on one side and leave on the other
- an elevator whose doors are blocked by a filing cabinet on one floor
- elevators where you need a key to access certain floors or to summon them at all
- dumbwaiters
