obsessions

  • using tangerine to stay accountable + track my research progress + generally scribble and make notes about my day-to-day life...!!
    • catch me romanticizing a dress w a gathered skirt and my battered copy of foucault, the green of the courtyard against darkening skies, last days of summer, a mind mumbling the scratchy lyrics of a tune from 1926...
  • tea! every kind !! i think it might be supplanting my love of iced coffee,, green tea in the mornings, peppermint tea in the evening with a book, honey green tea with evan, kiwi iced tea with the girls,,, it's all so lovely!

moments

  • a first week of classes spent carrying teetering stacks of books from the library to my desk in the history department, trips back and forth, back and forth, heart thrumming from exertion but mostly from the simple fact of these texts! books that have been so long out of my reach, now just a walk to the library away,,, blunden and sorley, owen's collected letters(!), heiddegger and wittgenstein and the open society and its enemies simply waiting for me! like a dream!
  • sitting on a bench outside the mathematics building, gray skies, sesame seed bagel, the classic iced-coffee almond-milk no-sugar close at hand,,, re-reading drifts and taking notes on the brown paper bag my bagel came in, my notebook left on the table at home. the sensation of time dilating, languidly, as that cool september breeze goes drifting past...!

good things about the month

  • the bright blue mornings of early autumn; limpid green trees lining the courtyard; skirts and blouses; feeling light; the lauded halls of the library, brimming over with books; giggling over sagittarius rising, the morning sun pooling on my notes and my coffee; transcribing letters; apples w peanut butter; early mornings reading on the third floor, happy pauses to talk with whoever happens to be passing by; weekly coffee dates w rachel and julia; hastily-written post-it notes; warm cups of peppermint tea; maps spread out across the hardwood floor; an email back from the hill school archivist; thrift stores and used books w evan; cleaning (but mostly dancing) to bix beiderbecke; the rolling, comforting thrum of the ox-5 engine; kiwi iced tea w the girls; abba's new songs on repeat; my beloved sorley biography and its sunflower yellow cover; friday mornings; old notebooks from the thrift store; a pumpkin maple iced latte; the classic linen shirt + belted high waisted jeans; the many lovely archivists i've messaged this month and their inspiring devotion to history (still touched that donna thought of me when she snapped that picture of andy's memorial); hours spent with foucault; dresses nearly everyday, embracing the vintage in my style; walking to starbucks for a break from studying; free iced coffee from dunkin! happy national coffee day;
