- Nefertiti by Michelle Moran (historical fiction; standalone)
- An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir (YA fantasy; there's a sequel, and it will be a four-book series)
- The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury (Aladdin retelling; standalone)
- The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Adhieh (One Thousand and One Nights retelling; book one of a duology; book two - The Rose and the Dagger - already released, but I haven't read it yet)
- The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie (YA fantasy; not GREAT, but the best fantasy with a lesbian romance that I've read - straightlaced sea monster trainer + tomboy pirate girl; supposedly the first in a new series)
- Anna of Byzantium by Tracy Barrett (historical fiction based on a true story and written by a historian; there isn't much of a plot, but I LOVED Anna and the Byzantine setting; standalone)
- She: A History of Adventure by H. Rider Haggard (1800s fantasy classic; one of the top ten bestselling books in history; this and its prequel, Wisdom's Daughter, are actually my FAVOURITE STORIES OF ALL TIME after my two beloved Narnia books - the only reason it's so far down the list is that most people nowadays find it a laborious read, but if you're patient with it, you may see how absolutely brilliant it is; one of a four-book series, but works perfectly as a standalone)
- Firecracker by David Iserson (YA contemporary comedy; not the most masterful story, but SO HILARIOUS, and I adored the MC)
