• Trapeze instructor Mandy (from Cleveland wedding) knows and has instructed my current Psych 1 student.
    • Same psych 1 student sees Ken Robinson's book on my shelf, and invites me to be a volunteer at the freedom awards, an event (at which he'll be speaking, and) that I had been contemplating trying to sneak into.
  • Erik (from Cleveland wedding) tells me about his research area, which I identify as being the same physics subfield as Doron, who told me about his research once about 5 years ago at UCSB Hillel. They work together.
    • Nobel prize winners in physics this year win for an experiment that Erik described to me on the plane (using scotch tape to make graphene. Awesome.)
  • I meet David's girlfriend (on their visit to Cleveland from Pittsburgh), who is from Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Population 30K. Next day, back in California, I have long random conversation with an adjunct SMC prof. Turns out she is from Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
  • Mike, Idil's friend, is friends with one of my cohort from UCSB. Connection made via facebook, so a little less random.
  • Levi, who I haven't seen for at least 3 years, is helping his friends move . . . on my block. As I pass by on my bike ride home, I smile at him unknowingly, and he shouts "Mr. Schwartz!" Also unplanned, he ran into my brother over the weekend. He doesn't live in LA, has been traveling in SE Asia for 9 months.
