- When I was around seven, I used to have this recurring dream. In the dream I was driving our old, brown cadillac. But the cadillac was operated with buttons like those you find on a VCR. The dream ended with an eighteen-wheeler crashing into me head-on (though I always woke up before impact).
- When the assistant kindergarten teacher, with curly blonde hair, tried to help me put on my sweater, I yanked it back from her because I thought someone was trying to take it from me. She gave me a reproachful look and walked away.
- On the way to Gatlinburg (in third grade) I was listening to music on my CD player on shuffle, and I tried to see if there was a pattern by writing the track number every time it went to the next random song.
- I remember sitting on a highchair and feeling like I was ten feet in the air. I can't tell if this was a distorted memory or just a dream.
- When I was four, pretending to be an owl under the dining room table while my mother chased me around the house with her camera.
- Hiding in the closet so well that my family called the police because they thought I went missing. The feeling I got when I revealed myself (guilt and disappointment; I didn't mean to scare them).
- Hitting my best friend's older brother with a plastic toy bat harder than I meant to in second grade.
- How the sound of someone zipping up their suitcase woke me up (and startled me) at summer camp in third or fourth grade.
- Having a pet frog. I can't remember his name.
- Saying "photosynthesis" to Mr. Mike, who was from Lousiana (I remember because he playfully pronounced "here" like "heyah"), at my afterschool program (in second grade).
- My grandfather yelling at me when I crossed the road without looking both ways (and how we both cried afterwards).
- How my mother used to take us for night-time drives with the sunroof down. We'd ride far away from town so we could see the stars better, and we'd look for satellites.
- Curling my hair at my aunt's third wedding (first grade).
- Driving the small two-door truck while sitting in my dad's lap and almost hitting a fence (five or six years old).
- My brother's imaginary friend's name being Jonas, because of the Weezer song, "My Name is Jonas". (he was two or three)
- My mother walking me in a stroller at night on the Square (which is like the downtown shopping district or whatever). I don't remember how old I was, but I guess I was too old to be in a stroller, because three drunk college students sitting outside a bar poked fun at us.
- How my room in the old house that was way out in the country (the same house my mother thought was haunted) used to attract lady bugs in the summer in my window. Hundreds would come at my window and crawl around in the glass, but few actually made it inside.
- Going to my mother's old work and playing with those stamp marker things that used to be so popular when I was a kid. (first grade?)
- I didn't like to choose which stuffed animal to sleep with, because I felt like I would hurt the feelings and neglect the others if I didn't pick them too. So I slept with all of them. And we used to fly into space on our spaceship, with them lined up beside me.
