• 4 c water
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, sliced
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • 2 star anise
  • a few grinds black pepper
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 oz. black tea
  • 1/3 c sugar
    • put spices in a teabag, add to a saucepan with water, bring to a simmer and cover for 10 minutes
    • turn off heat and add tea, steeping for 5 minutes
    • remove tea and spices. add vanilla and sugar and stir
    • strain and store in an airtight pitcher or jar
    • keeps for a week refrigerated

edit notes: screwed up quantity of tea bc i can't math; fixed. reduced sugar to just a 1/3 c and it still tastes ok; think i have better tea this time around so it's not as bitter.
