- 4 c water
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 inch fresh ginger, sliced
- 4 whole cloves
- 4 cardamom pods
- 2 star anise
- a few grinds black pepper
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 oz. black tea
- 1/3 c sugar
- put spices in a teabag, add to a saucepan with water, bring to a simmer and cover for 10 minutes
- turn off heat and add tea, steeping for 5 minutes
- remove tea and spices. add vanilla and sugar and stir
- strain and store in an airtight pitcher or jar
- keeps for a week refrigerated
edit notes: screwed up quantity of tea bc i can't math; fixed. reduced sugar to just a 1/3 c and it still tastes ok; think i have better tea this time around so it's not as bitter.
