• while doing homework on one of the university computers, i spied sailor moon manga on one of the others. it turned out to be a very large, imposing football player reading it. he told me that it was his little sister’s new obsession and he wanted to be able to talk to her about it when she called. gmh.
  • when i was in grade 7, all my supposed friends blew off my birthday party when they said they would come. only one person showed up. my older sister had some of her guy friends over, and when they saw how sad i was, they cancelled their plans to hang out with me on my birthday. teenage boys who care about their friend's little sister gmh.
  • a few years ago i watched a video on youtube about a girl who badly hurt her ankle rounding first base after a game-winning homerun during a softball game. none of her team members could help her without disqualifying her. members from the opposing team walked over to her and carried her to each base, gently touch her foot on each base. their selflessness gmh.
  • i've been struggling with an eating disorder for years and weigh myself obsessively throughout the day. this morning, there was a post-it note covering the numbers on my scale that said "you're beautiful". i live with three guys. men like that gmh.
  • today was my little brother's birthday and he's been begging for a birthday party. the thing is, he's autistic and doesn't have any friends, but i couldn't tell him no. i told some of my friends about the situation, and they agreed to come spend the day with him. my friends are seventeen year old boys. their generous love for my little brother gmh.
  • a boy in my sister's high school lost his mother to suicide this year. the christmas gifts he is buying his little brothers are essentials like socks and underwear. he was sad one day because his little brothers are asking for a wii, which he can't afford. my sister bought the game system for the boy to give to his brothers. her selflessness gmh.
  • there's a really beautiful freshman in our school who a mentally challenged sophomore boy has a huge crush on. she got asked by at least ten people to the winter formal dance, but she decided to go with the mentally challenged boy. beautiful girls who are also beautiful inside gmh.
  • on valentine's day in high school, student council sold carnations that would be delivered to your friends in first period. one boy in my school bought a flower for every single girl in his first period class, so that no one would be left out. his kindness gmh.
  • yesterday, it was late and i was heading to my car in the parking lot after work and three young guys come up to me and start talking. i was scared, until one draped his arm around me and silently showed me a text on his phone, telling me there was a dodgy guy following me and that they would make sure i got to my car safely. their kindness gmh.
  • a five year old boy in my town had leukemia. his wish for make-a-wish was to spend a day with corbin bleu (an actor in high school musical), and he had a blast. yesterday was the boy's funeral. corbin flew in to our town with his dad and attended the funeral as a pallbearer. his selflessness gmh.
  • this morning as i was packing lunch, about to leave for work, my boyfriend danced into the kitchen singing a made up song consisting of only my name over and over. when he saw me, he turned red and said "oh, you're still here". sneaking a peak in the daily routine of someone who really loves me gmh.
  • today, at an assembly, i saw a guy in my grade getting picked on by some guys on the football team because he was gay. the brutal insults went on for about five minutes until the quarterback, the king of our school, stood up and announced he was gay. nobody ever made fun of the kid again. after, i asked him if he really was gay. he isn't. gmh.
  • today my flight was 100% full. as we left, clapping started in the rear of the plane and the stewardess escorted a returning soldier up to first class. a business man had seen him and requested to switch. he traded his first class seat for a middle seat in a last row. his generosity gmh.
  • i like to dress up like marilyn manson, so this often gets me stares from strangers on the street, and not in the good way. while waiting on the bus stop, this woman asks me to carry her baby for her while she was looked for something. i was surprised that she wasn't openly avoiding me, much more let me carry her baby. looking past stereotypes gmh.
  • i'm sixteen and am about to have a baby. i work a minimum wage job with about fifteen other people who are just barely making it. my boss told me that me being pregnant was making him look bad and that i need to quit. i did. so did everyone else working there. gmh.
  • i've been recovering from years of depression and self-harm. my boyfriend has been helping me recover every step of the way, by funding my treatment and making sure i'm never alone. today i was feeling really down about myself. he tossed me my dictionary and said to look up "beautiful." he had taped in my picture. it's the little things that gmh.
  • my younger brother was born with a severe disability. my parents are his main caretakers and the thought of what will happen to him when they're gone has always scared me. i confided this in my boyfriend recently and without skipping a beat, he said "we'll take him." his understanding gmh.
  • today i was walking in the park and saw some teenage boys on a bench around my age. they looked like the typical kind that loiter outside of stores, so i was surprised to see a little kid with them. i turned to say a quick hi and realized the kid was holding one of their guitars. they were teaching him to play. positive influences gmh.
  • a couple of years ago, when i was a sophomore in high school, i went on my very first date. when the door bell rang my mom got up to go answer the door, but my brother told her that he wanted to do it. when he opened the door he told my date that if anything happened to me that he would personally beat him up. he was only eleven years old. his love gmh.
  • today at the supermarket i saw a middle-aged man looking at tampons. he had a box of chocolates in the other hand. guys like that gmh.
  • today i was eating lunch at the mall and noticed a girl about sixteen years old nonchalantly putting quarters in every single candy machine on the first floor. she then took an escalator to the second floor and watched with a smile as kids became happy and excited when they discovered the money. she gmh.
  • one of my classmates in high school had leukaemia, and he was really depressed after his first round of chemo when he came to school with no hair. when they found out about it, all seventy plus members of the varsity football team shaved their heads too. their yearbook picture is the most beautiful thing i've ever seen. gmh.
  • a few years ago, i was sitting on a bus in the dominican republic with many other tourists waiting to go back to our resort. it was hot and many children were complaining to their parents. then one man got up, counted the children and got off the bus. he went to the ice cream shop and bought every child an ice cream cone. he gmh and ice cream.
