  • Commander's Palace for some fancy brunch: haven't been here, but it's a NOLA classic
  • Napoleon House in the Quarter: have not been here but hear good things
  • the Sneaky Pickle, located on St Claude, good vegan options and the best fries I've had in NOLA
  • Verti Mart in the Quarter: a good Muffaletta, open 24 hrs
  • Guy's: massive po-boys in Uptown, cash only, only open for lunch

  • some other places on Oak I've been meaning to try: Breads on Oak (breakfast & lunch place, veg friendly, apparently good bread), Simone's Grocery (lunch place with sandwiches)
  • apparently there are muffuletta fries at Port of Orleans, in Uptown


  • Carousel CafĂ© for some fancy drinks in the Quarter, opens at 11am (a good place for a Sazerac)
  • Hot Tin: rooftop bar along St Charles with good views of the city, opens at 2pm
  • Chais Delachaise Wine Bistro located in Uptown, has good cocktails and cheese plates. Happy Hour from 3 - 6.


  • Crescent City Cat Club: $10 cover, hang out with cats, in the Marigny 12 - 6pm R-Su
  • Second Line Antiques: along Frenchman St, has quite a collection of stuff
  • The Fly: a park along the river in Uptown near the zoo, where you can take a drink and relax.
  • The Zoo, Insectarium, or Aquarium: FREE (for us). Zoo is near my house, Insectarium & Aquarium are downtown.


  • Metairie Cemetery: elaborate tombs, in Lakeview, hours unknown
  • St. Louis Cemetery No. 3: tidier, along Esplanade, open 8 - 4:30 on Saturday
  • St. Roch Cemetery No. 1: the strangest one, lots of prosthetics and other tokens, in Seventh Ward, open 8:30am - 4:00pm


  • Preservation Hall in the French Quarter: $20 cash cover, shows at 5, 6, 8, 9, 10pm daily
  • Tipitina's in Uptown: Friday, Feb 15 Stooges Brass Band @ 10pm, $15
  • Maple Leaf Bar: in Uptown on Oak, Friday, Feb 15 Funk Monkey @ 11pm, $10


  • Jean Lafitte Swamp: easy boardwalk with a chance of alligators. technically a national park!
  • drive the Causeway across Lake Pontchartrain (have not done this but it sounds wild)
  • walking around the French Quarter
  • city park: their version of Forest Park, has an art museum and a bunch of big oak trees


  • Krewe du Vieux is in the Marigny & French Quarter and rolls at 6:30
