• Numbers 16:1-3
  • ↪ Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the Lord?
• Numbers 16:28-33
  • ↪ Then Moses said, “This is how you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these things and that it was not my idea: If these men die a natural death and suffer the fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me. But if the Lord brings about something totally new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them, with everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the realm of the dead, then you will know that these men have treated the Lord with contempt.” As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community.

THE DANGERS OF SELF PROMOTION & SELF EXALTATION

• Pride, most believe, is the root to all sin.
  • Rebellion: Rebelling against the Will of God.
  • Unbelief/Skepticism: Believing you're smarter than the Bible or know more.
  • Religious Arrogance: Looking down on other people who aren't where you are spiritually.
  • Self-Exaltation: Seeking the admiration of others that should only come from God. Lifting yourself up more than God or others. Putting yourself on a pedestal Making yourself out to be an idol.

WHO WAS KORAH?

• Pride says what God has given you is not enough. "You must have more."
• 3 John 1:9

• Luke 18:9-14
  • ↪ To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

HOW TO REMOVE SELF-EXALTATION OUT OF YOUR HEART

• 1. Learn to steward small things well. (Luke 16:10)
• 2. Steward what belongs to another, like it belongs to you. (Luke 16:12)
• 3. Get free from the need for "people approval" & "mans applause" (Colossians 3:23-24)
• 4. Do things that bring you absolutely no glory. (Colossians 3:23-24)
• 5. Repent & Renounce the sin of Korah.
