ON THE OUTSIDE:

  • It will look like a lofty, old Victorian, painted a lovely color such as blue or yellow. Also, is that brick I see?
  • It will have a covered porch with a roof that doesn't leak. On the porch will be a swing and a comfy couch, as well as a card-table, chairs, and candles.
  • There will be a massive garden near the house, with gorgeous fruit trees and lush lavender bushes.
  • The house will come with a bit of property. Maybe some fields, or a river. And there will be an old barn with a place to keep horses.
  • Yet with all of this small-town country feel, it will not take especially long to make it into the city.
  • To the back of my house will be a tree house, or a tire swing, or some other probably dangerous but terrific piece of fun.

THE FIRST FLOOR:

  • There will be a ballroom/music room, with a high ceiling and space to dance and a piano. There will also be a bookcase full of old music books, and paintings of people dancing lining the walls. An old chandelier is necessary, as well as a velvet couch for people to sit while I play Chopin.
  • There will be an sunny kitchen, with a wall of windows facing the back of the property. There will be a bar to eat breakfast at which is on the other side of some burners, as well as an old wooden table with mismatched chairs for lunch. Yet even though the kitchen will have a homey-feel, it will be decked out with a state-of the art dishwasher, refrigerator, and oven. There will also be a hanging bookcase full of old and new recipe books, and an old-fashioned red mixer.
  • Next to the kitchen will be the dining room. It will be the place to eat dinner and entertain when friends come over. It will be fairly small, with most of the place taken up by a large elegant table and chairs. There will be candelabras lighting the the room, and family photos lining the walls.
  • The kitchen will also connect to the living room, although they will be able to be separated by closing a door and a window. The living room will feel comfortable, with two couches, recliners, and a large television. On one side of the TV will be a shelf full of DVDs and old movies. On the bottom of the shelf will be a basket full of blankets and pillows for late-night viewing comfort.
  • The house will also have a library. I will spend a great deal of time in this room. The walls will be covered in sky-blue wallpaper with gold engravings of hieroglyphic figures. Two walls will be covered, however, by towering brown bookcases full of books, and one side of the room will be bare, made instead entirely of windows. The side facing the windows will display the wallpaper, and contain a comfy tan couch and chair, with a side table and lamp made out of stained glass.
  • There will be a standard bathroom on the first floor. It will likely be ocean-themed, or desert-themed, and contain a painting to look at as well as a small-bookcase with "toilet reads".
  • There will a laundry room linked to the hallway that leads to the back entrance outside. It will be a fairly large laundry room, clean with space for three long hanging racks like they have in department stores.
  • The secret feature of downstairs will be a secret passageway that leads from the laundry room to the second floor. In the middle of the passageway will be a painting. Behind the painting will be a locked safe.

THE BASEMENT:

  • The basement will be a fairly spooky place, like all basements should be. There will be a cellar-ish area to store jams and wine and other hardy foods, as well as boxes full of holiday decorations.

THE SECOND FLOOR:

  • There will be an old twisted staircase leading from downstairs up into a long carpeted hallway that leads to all the rooms.
  • First, there will be the den. It will be a smaller sort of living room, decked out with another TV and gaming systems, as well as a place for a sit-down computer and printer.
  • Then there will be the "sea room". It will be a comfy bedroom decorated in swirling blues and greens.
  • Then there will be the "sunset room". It will be a bright bedroom decorated in warm oranges and reds.
  • In between these two rooms will be a bathroom with two sinks and a shower. It will be decorated in lavender or purple shades.
  • Finally there will be the master bedroom. It will be decorated however I like, and have a large walk-in closet and bathroom. The bathroom will not only have a shower, but also a large, clawfoot tub.
  • After the master-bedroom will be the writing room. It will have my typewriter collection displayed on a shelf, as well as writer's resources, a large desk, and another stained-glass lamp. There will also be a sewing-station, and another hidden staircase, this one leading all the way out to the garden. Lining the wall of the staircase will be my stash of romance novels.

THE ATTIC:

  • The attic will not be half-assed and small, or full of pipes. It will be large with room for chests full of old clothing, heirlooms, and toys. It will also have a pull-down staircase to enter it.

IN CONCLUSION:

  • My dream house will look and feel old, but have been renovated to become manageable and comfortable.
  • I plan on having (or adopting) lots of kids, so there will be a lot of space.
  • Almost every room in the house will have bookcases.
  • It will fulfill my childhood dreams based on reading Nancy Drew and the Boxcar Children.
