  • looks like there's loads of 3 month stuff. if i was also freelancing or had saved up i wouldnt have to worry about money so much. and i could live pretty much anywhere for just 3 months. e.g. thailand, odd bits of china, korea, even japan. and in more crappy jobs which would be why they want 3 month people. and then offer to extend it if i really loved it, otherwise move on. WOOP IDEAL. hardcore travelling or exploring the area in between yay.
  • six-month contracts are possible if you can find a job in January. In Asia contracts are longer, often 12-24 months. I think it's important to point out that contrary to popular opinion TEFL is actually a job as opposed to a brilliant holiday where you can swan in for a couple of weeks, teach the locals and swan back out in search of your next destination. Thus contracts have been designed to fit the needs of the school and its students and NOT the needs of the wannabe-teacher.
  • I would say that it's extremely unlikely to find work for just a couple of months. The only exception would be by sheer luck if a teacher has suddenly had to leave a school for some reason and you are there to fill in for them.
  • In this case you'd have to be in the country at the time and available (in other words, they wouldn't fly you out for just a couple of months).
  • You must have a minimum of 1 semester availability. That's September to Early January, or Mid February to August.
  • The paperwork to teach in Korea can take a little time so it's simply not worth the effort for a school to go through that for such a short period.
  • Similarly, private schools aimed at teaching business English or adult ESL classes may have shorter, 3- or 6-month long contracts. Don't commit for longer than you feel comfortable, and keep in mind that there's usually a possibility to renew your contract if you and your school are satisfied with your work. Leaving a school shorthanded could potentially have negative effects on their business or students' education.
  • One-month summer camps run in July and January in Korea. http://theglobalherald.com/travel-expert-short-term-english-teaching-work-in-south/10499/
