*those marked with an asterisk are includes explicit scenes

a list of visual novels for the cold season, only includes ones that i have played

• mahoyo/witch on the holy night
  • as the name suggests, the story is a build up towards the "holy night", or christmas. aside from being a part of a grander cinematic universe, it also does a great job of capturing the mood of winter as the part of the time that seems to stand still through the eyes of highschoolers from the countryside who are uncertain about their futures, not readily accepting the spring that comes
• tenshi no inai 12gatsu/ december when there is no angel *
  • a protagonist with a murakami-esque melancholy, and a cast of romanceable girls who seemingly deters from what they are on the surface. yukio sumedara is a remarkable heroine who lingers between the boundaries between life and death, fantasy and reality.
• zato - i love the world and everything in it
  • a shorter visual novel, no voice acting. the story takes place in a small fictional soviet town during the winter months.
