unfortunately i have only FIFTY NINE fics on my list of fics read this year. as a result, this year’s list is shorter than usual, with only five fics each category... i tried to make it six so it would be a perfect twelve to keep with the year theme, but eh. anyway, at least it was easier to complete the commentary this time!

• bellamy comes home after college trying to figure out his life. he reunites with clarke, his OLD BABYSITTER. of course i love the porn too the fuck. but also it’s good to see bellamy grow into himself! this was a nice happy little read. this is so funny because i have not seen this show and never want to know what the characters look like. i’ve looked them up before but they fade from my mind immediately whenever i do.

a tale of two bars

• felix and byleth work at rival bars. by some confusion re: phone numbers, they also become each other’s secret spicy text mates. ummm. um. chaos. BUT ALSO: the characterization is super good, the worldbuilding (i know it’s just two bars but it’s fun) is really immersive. i like it a lot.

• hildimi’s chemistry is insane. i love the dynamic the writer set them up to have… it feels very them and it feels good. the writing here is also so good i could imagine what was going on so clearly. the sex is brief but intense! i wish there were more (installments, but also sex). you can also scroll down and read my comment lmfao

what’s past is personal

• this is part of a series called fodlan circa 5400 that fucking kills me. byleth, who fought alongside and married claude back in the 1800s, is still alive thanks to uhhhhhhhh having God Blood in her. she’s just trying to live her life, man. but also claude is her one true love and her memories of her actual youth and real first life are the thread that runs through her continuing lives and huuuuu

• i am just going to paste the summary here. nothing i say can summarize it enough.
• Five years after college, Felix attends his reunion. The inevitable tides of fate (or maybe just Dedue) push him back into the orbit of the person he's been trying to forget.
• anyway dimitri has a psychotic episode at the end of college, but they end up reuniting 5 yrs later at their college reunion and it becomes a dude we’re getting the band back together phineas and ferb episode with their friend group. BUT IT IS SO MUCH MORE. THIS FIC CHANGED MY LIFE. not only does it scratch the itch character-wise and translation-to-a-modern-au-wise, it tackles so much. the characters are MESSY and god – the way they wrote felix broke me and made me take a long hard look at myself. good lord. there’s a happy ending, and it’s well-earned. the writing isn’t fancy or punchy, but it’s good, and it gets you. i can’t recommend this fic enough.
