about gugudan

gugudan (stylized as: gu9udan, usually lowercased) is a girl group from Jellyfish Entertainment that successfully debuted in June 28th 2016. Their name, 구구단, literally means multiplication table in Korean.
According to Jellyfish, the group's name actually means "9 girls with 9 different charms". The members are then assigned with representative numbers from 1-9 plus their symbols. 9 girls and 9 charms = 9x9.
Another meaning is that gugudan is a wordplay from another Korean word 극단 meaning theatre, and so gugudan portray theatrical plays derived from different pieces of literature and/or art every comeback.
