- If you bring a nice wine, bottle of liquor or microbrew to a party, it will all get drunk. Just not by you. Save the nice stuff for a smaller dinner party, or as a host/hostess gift.
- Which brings me to this: host/hostess gifts should not be consumed at the party you bring it to. They should be consumed later, at the host/hostess's leisure.
- If you meet someone new at a work function/party/bar/etc and you talk about the weather or American Idol, don't bother exchanging info. You won't really be hanging out. Unless you really love American Idol, of course. In which case, see above.
- Posting on someone's wall or "liking" their posts doesn't count as hanging out. Call your friends.
- If you hear an off-color remark, it's okay to laugh but only if you say "That's fucked up!"
- Most of the time, it's just a job. So don't get too stressed.
- The venue matters. A lot.
- Moderation is a really difficult thing to live by - but it works.
- Do you love food or do you love to eat? There's a difference.
- If you stay on the main roads, you're most likely to miss all the treasures.
- When in Rome, do as the motherfucking Romans do. Don't be such a fucking American - bend to meet the world, don't make the world bend to you.
