He's waiting for whatever it is to stop hurtling through the air to hit it but gapes when it slaps against the tree instead of the ground. There's a short yelp but it's deafened by the sound of the tree being pulled out of the ground, dirt falling onto the path and roots coming into view. Was that... Was that an animal?
