• Took my first trapeze class. Had the best time. Landed my knee hang the first time. And successfully caught by the catcher twice. Definitely addicted. I felt like a natural. I hope I can keep this up.
  • Bought a new laptop. Finally.
  • Went to the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies conference with Lori. We got to leave work early, I learned a lot and was very motivated to better our shelter. Also, it's something else I can put on a resume!
  • Applied for a registrar position with the Museum of the Confederacy and with the University of Mary Washington.
  • Went to White Oak Animal Hospital to learn more about spay scars with Lori, Susan and Kerry. More points for my animal related resume.
  • Got my tax return. $720.00 Wooo!
  • Went to my second trapeze class. Mom drove me and brought Darla. I blew it. I was so confident from the first class but I didn't do well at all my second class. I didn't make either of my catches and almost took out my instructor in the process. So this means I didn't progress and so will be working on the same skill next class :(.
  • Bought a fucking car. Whaaaat. Welcome to being completely broke and never spending money on anything else ever again. I was able to put down $3,000 and my payment isn't that high compared to most people's but to me it's still going to be a real struggle to pay.
  • Had a nice lunch at Panera with Dad.
  • Applied for a job with the Tatitlek organization.
  • Had a super productive 3 day vacation for myself while Alex was in Mexico for work. I started a new painting and continued an old drawing, I visited Moms and had lunch with her and Tiffany, took the dogs on a nice long walk, watched several classic movies, cleaned the house, read a lot...it was a nice weekend alone!
  • Witnessed my first birth at the SPCA. A mamma cat had 5 babies and I helped clean up one of the kittens. SO tiny!
  • Olivia had her last day at work. I'll miss her! I hope we keep in touch and she comes back to visit.
  • 5th UB today. I love to watch Alex play in his band. He becomes someone else. Someone very sexy! And I love to watch him have fun and watch everyone else enjoy his band. Even though my social anxiety got the best of me and I left early! But I got a really nice comment on my hair from a cool chick so that made me happy :).
  • Ran the Monument Avenue 10k for the 3rd time. Did better than ever. 52 minutes and some change. I've got to keep getting better every year! I royally fucked up though and forgot to pick up one of the girls' packet and we also forgot where we parked the car and walked around for 2 extra hours after the race, cold and hungry and hurting. But we had a nice lunch at Mimi's afterwards and I got to spend time with my sister and her friends. And we can all laugh about the parking debacle now.
  • Bought a huge bag of wild bird seed and have been feeding the birds from our back deck for several weeks now. It makes me very happy! Every morning cardinals, blue jays, all different kinds of sparrows and finches and even my special red-bellied woodpecker make an appearance. I like to think that I am single-handledly going to cause the wild bird population in this small hamlet of woods in an otherwise suburban sprawl, flourish.
  • Finally saw The Dark Crystal. LOVE.
  • Had the longest week at work in a while. I had been feeling sick since the 10k. Headaches, fevers, nausea after eating a lot of things. First time I've been sick in a while.
  • Saw Your Highness with Alex. I love Danny McBride. I'm proud that he's from my town! The movie was funny, expectedly, but it was also a great fantasy/adventure film with a lot of creative creatures that nerds like me could appreciate.
  • Mom forwarded a text in which she was saying negative things about Shandy TO Shandy and all hell broke lose. Just when we were beginning to have a stronger relationship with hopes of moving upward :(.
  • Strained my back and bruised my kneecap. Oh, the perils of working at the SPCA. I will be happy when I can have a job where injury is not a regular part of the job.
  • Got Mom's old elliptical. Our little home gym is coming right along.
  • Saw Scream 4 with Alex. It was a little spoofy for my liking. I get that they were poking fun at themselves and they were trying to be cheesy but, still, it went a little far.
  • Third trapeze class. Got my heels off, finally! Now I can work on something new. It felt good to not be such a newbie and be able to tell first-timers what to expect.
  • Met Allison for brunch in D.C. afterwards and then saw the old brownstone she lives in. It was nice to see her again!
  • Watched a beautiful documentary with Alex: The Human Experience. And it had an equally beautiful soundtrack.
  • Saw Water for Elephants with Alex. I had so much anticipation for this movie because I loved the book so much and now that I am enrolled in trapeze school, I am more obsessed with circus stuff than ever! I absolutely loved it and cried twice. But all the reviews I read afterwards were mostly negative.
  • Attended Jessica's bridal shower with my mom and Shandy. My first bridal shower! And it was nice to spend time with my family and get to know Jessica and her friends better and get to know about her relationship with Paul better, as well. I took my camera and got some cute pictures, not as many as I would have liked, but I am getting better! Tiffany didn't show up. She is completely engrossed in her life in Richmond and has no time for her family, I was very disappointed in her.
  • Watched the Royal Wedding of Catherine and William. It was magnificent. I didn't think I would care that much because I really don't believe in marriage as I have seen them fail more often than not. But this was absolutely breathtaking and it was truly a real live fairytale and it gave me a glimmer of hope and I wish them the best.
  • Went to my fourth trapeze class. Got my log book. Fell slightly in lust with a trapeze instructor I had yet to meet. Got me thinking about this crossroads I'm coming to. Caught my set straddle. But only once. Oh well, I'm getting better :). Beautiful day and not much traffic on the way back.
  • Saw the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast with Alex. It was fantastic. Really beautiful! And I was able to get some cool pictures with my new lens in low light!
  • Went to another Battle FC fight. This time as the photographer. EEEEK! There were other amateur photogs there but I actually had a pass but I still felt like a geek like people were silently judging me, saying what the fuck is this girl doing. But it was fun and I got over my nerves and I got some okay pictures and got paid for it.
  • Made my first car payment. Ah!
  • Finished The Dark Tower series IV: Wizard and Glass. Finally!
  • Had a lovely rehearsal dinner at the Inn for Jessica's wedding. My parents saw eachother for the first time in over three years. It was tense at first and there were tears had by many but, miraculously, things calmed down and went fairly smoothly. Grandma, Grandpa, Mimi, Kevin, Scott, Katie, Kim, Kaley, Angie, Nick, Dian & Joe all made it from Florida! I had a delicious meal and spent quality time with Shandy. Tiffany never showed up or even answered our calls/texts. Major dissapointment in her :(. All in all, it was a great evening full of love and forgiveness and acceptance. Can't wait for the wedding. Don't let me screw up the photos!
  • Feeling good (dare I say, great?) about myself lately!
  • Jessica and Pauls wedding was BEAUTIFUL. I cried, I laughed, I cried some more. My sister was stunning and I've never been prouder or happier for her. It was a wonderful night spent with wonderful people. And my first hand at wedding photography went pretty well. And Nick was a great help without being pushy or superior. I received a lot of compliments from a lot of different people and I felt great about myself! I had THREE pieces of delicious cake. Shandy was a treasure and was so lovely to be around. She was genuinely happy to be there. I spent some real quality time with my family who I love so much. It was a perfect day&night.
  • Saw Thor with Alex. It was pretty good! I love a good epic, superhero movie.
  • Got really great feedback from everyone about my wedding photos! The Inn wants to have them so they can refer me if future weddings are in need of a photographer. The florist is using my photos to advertise her own skills. Everyone has been really great and given me a major boost of confidence in my skill! I hope this can progress.
  • Got pretty sick the week after the wedding. Fever and non-stop coughing. Ugh.
  • Saw Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The fourth installment. It was awesome. I love fantasy/adventure movies so much. I want to be a mermaid! I was in a pretty crabby mood with Alex though. I was very irritated and on edge. I don't know what's causing it. I get like this often, I feel very discontented with life. I want more from it and I don't feel like I am doing all the things I want to be doing.
  • Took Darla and Karl down to the battlefield and walked by the railroad tracks. Had a nice walk downtown with Alex even though I was still in my strange and crabby mood. I hate when I get like that. Then his parents made a surprise visit and we went out to dinner at Vinny's.
  • Had a bad day at work. We took in 9 dogs total and it was a very frustrating, long day and I let a rude woman who was turning in her two dogs get the best of me and I lost my temper with her and let it show in front of other people. I was ashamed and I wish I hadn't let her get to me like that but she called me a bitch and insulted my job/how much money I make.
  • Make that just a bad week at work in general. I wish people could come to me directly and talk about any problems they have with what I'm doing instead of tattling on me to our superior, making me looking bad and causing me to get a passive-aggressive memo about what I did wrong. Ugh. SO happy to see the weekend. I've got to apply for some jobs on these two days off!
  • Successfully caught my set-straddle whip at trapeze. I caught this trick the last class as well but today I did it with a one-handed take off! One of the first steps towards swinging out of lines.
  • Went to Tangier Island with Alex and his parents. Got my first sunburn in a looong time! Took some pictures and enjoyed a day trip to a place where life is lived very differently!
  • Went downtown to First Friday. I haven't been to a First Friday in years, probably! We went kind of late so a lot of the galleries were closing. But it was still a nice night and it was good to walk around and people watch.
  • Went to our first horror convention: Monster Mania Con 18: Return to Camp Crystal Lake in Huntsville, Maryland. It was cool. I got a neat poster and Alex got to meet Kane Hodder. We were probably the least tattooed couple there. But it was fun, can't wait to go to more and bigger conventions!
  • Worked on a new trick at trapeze, a set-whip. I got the trick down pretty much and with a one-handed take off but I didn't catch it :(
  • Saw Super 8 with Alex. It was amazing. I usually like most movies I see but I LOVED this. I haven't loved a movie this much in a while. It had everything I love about 80's movies.
  • Went to Hollywood Cemetery and out to lunch in Richmond with Tiffany and Mom. It was good to see her. Her life runs perpendicular to ours now. She is always on the go, with various photoshoots and traveling here and there. I hope that makes her cherish us more rather than grow apart from us.
  • Went out to eat at Firebirds with Jess, Paul, Alex, Janette, Dad and myself for Father's Day. It was nice. But expensive! Jessica spends money like crazy!
  • Applied for a job with the Stafford SPCA as a Volunteer Coordinator and/or Marketing Director. Haven't heard back yet :( I don't really understand why I wouldn't at least get an interview, coming from the Fredericksburg SPCA.
  • Went with Shandy and my Dad to an Army recruiter to look into getting Shandy to the Army. It would be a huge step for her and amazing for her if she got in!
