• Turned 25. Yikes!
  • Spent my birthday at Christmastown at Busch Gardens Williamsburg with Alex, his parents, his brother and his new girlfriend. It wasn't as magical this time or maybe I just wasn't as impressed because we went last year! I was also awkward around Owen and his new lady. But I am generally awkward, anyway. Alex and I had fun laughing at things together. Then I had to drive home alone and almost fell asleep at the wheel!
  • Had a nice Christmas at Moms. Spent quality time with my sisters. Woke up early and took the dogs out on the battlefield for a long walk. Got too many great, undeserved gifts. Went to work and felt so guilty for leaving my animals early and alone on Christmas. Had another nice get together at Dads. Got 10 trapeze classes! Had good conversation as usual. Alex got me a tarantula. Awesome Christmas.
  • Made my own hummus and tabouli with mom and my new food processor! Felt good to make something for myself and know what was being put in it.
  • Saw Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The new American remake. It was SO good. Lisbeth has become a feminist icon. I love her and wish I had the courage to have a bit more of her in me.
  • 18th trapeze class. Had to go to the early class Saturday morning because Friday was sold out but it was lovely. Worked on the back-end split again. Caught it both times and with much better form. Next time I will work on a force out! I've got to remember, slow and steady progress. Nothing comes overnight.
  • Didn't do much to celebrate New Year's. Went exploring at Slaughter Pen Farm with Alex again. I don't know why but I love it out there. We hung out at home for a while but I had work the next day so Alex went to Richmond to be with his friends. Which was fine with me. Here's to 2012 and making my goals come to fruition.
  • 19th trapeze class. Starting working on a force-out. Eh. Didn't go very well. Pretty hard! I also feel very competitive with some of the other women in my class. There are two women that I see now and then. They are young, a little older than me but both doctors. They are both perfectionists and think they are the fucking bee's knees. I always feel like I need to show them up. Ugh, I need to stop. Everyone is an individual. I am only competing with myself.
  • Saw War Horse with Alex. It was long but beautiful cinematography and of course, a heart-warming animal story.
  • Finally got my damn hair cut. I need to put more of an effort into my appearance.
  • 20th trapeze class. Worked on my force-out again. In some aspects it went better than last time, in others, worse. I changed hand positions leaving the platform that will really help my takeoff. I don't know why they didn't notice how short I was a long time ago and have me leave from there when I first started. Oh well. Meghan, the lyra teacher was working flying trapeze and she brought a new energy to the class. She makes me focus more on relaxing and breathing, although she is harder on me than the other instructors. Eh. Hopefully, I will start a new trick next class. I bought a homeless man clam chowder on the way to my car also. Yay, good deeds.
  • Took my first silks class. I loved it. It was just one other student besides myself and our instructor, Carey, who I've met before. I like her a lot. She is nice and patient and soft-spoken and I don't feel intimidated by her. It was a lot more physically demanding than trapeze. A lot more arm strength. I got more tired than with flying. But it was more independent. It was just me and the silks, mostly. Definitely won't be the last time.
  • 21st trapeze class. Finally getting the hang of my force-out and getting a better take-off. Now to string everything together and add a trick with my force-out. Not doing anything showy or impressive or that makes good photos but I will get there.
  • Got my second write-up since working at the SPCA. As with my first one, it was all because of Kerry misconstruing and exaggerating and dramatizing something I said and then being a tattle-tale to my boss instead of coming to me one on one. I'm just going to keep my mouth shut from now on.
  • Saw The Woman in Black with Alex. We had to sit up in the Premiere, 21 and up section because general admission was sold out. But it was actually really cool, I can see why people pay the extra to sit up there. The movie was fan-fucking-tastic. Gave me a heart attack a couple of times.
  • 22nd trapeze class. Worked on my force-out...STILL. It's coming along but not consistently. I also worked on another back-end trick, the back-end whip. I caught it but only once. Jessica also came to watch for the first time. She got stuck in traffic so was very late but she did see me get my catch. She brought her girlfriend-thing, Gerri. Allison also met up with us. She was late too and didn't see me at all. We went out eat at Cava, a Mediterranean mezze place. It was really good. Things I had never eaten in my life. And things I wasn't so comfortable eating. I hate not knowing the calorie content of things. I really liked Gerri though, she was cool and nice and smart. I feel bad for liking her because I feel so sad for Paul in the back of my mind. But what can I do?
  • Went to another Battle FC fight with Alex. Dad got us in free as usual. The fights themselves were lackluster. No real big, exciting fights but oh well. It was fun and nice to see my Dad. We had good talks, as usual!
  • 23rd trapeze class. Things are really coming together. I finally have my force-out pretty much. Today, I worked on adding my force-out to some of my old tricks. I felt good and made minimal mistakes, at least I thought so. I was SO close to canceling because I just didn't feel like driving and I wanted to stay at home and do nothing but I forced myself to go and had a great time. Isn't that the way it always is though?
  • Went with mom down to Richmond to visit Tiffany. We went to the VMFA and saw the mummy exhibit on loan from the British Museum. Pretty awesome. We had lunch in the cafe there. It was yum. We saw Tiffany's new little basement apartment she shares with Richard. It was cute. It was very good to see her. I want very badly to be closer with her.
  • My Uncle Jimmy passed away after a long struggle with colon and prostate cancer and liver failure. He was wasting away and in pain and I think he's better off now. Still, very sad. I feel bad for not being in contact with all of my extended family more. Jessica, Dad and I all flew down for less than 24 hours for the funeral and a big dinner at Grandmas. It was great to see everyone. It was so worth it even for just a short amount of time. I love my family and, like I always say, I want and will try to keep better contact and be closer. I had a good time even though it was for a somber occasion. R.I.P. to my Uncle who I wish I knew better.
  • 24th trapeze class. Worked on a variety of things. Still working on my force-out and putting it on to my back-end tricks. Still hit or miss. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. I lack consistency. I also started working on my back-end hocks-off. It was okay. A good day at trapeze all in all, learning new things!
  • Finally finished the seventh and last book in the Dark Tower Series.
  • Zipped through the first book in the Hunger Games Trilogy. It was an easy read but still SO good. Such a neat concept.
  • My dad applied for a job for me as a county clerk for Spotsylvania. It would be a boring job but slightly more pay and I would get off all holidays!
  • Bought and zipped through the second Hunger Games book, Catching Fire. I haven't read books this fast since Harry Potter.
  • Mom went out of town to Florida for about 5 days to see her mom and straighten affairs with her brother and father. Shandy was home alone with Chris and the dogs. I helped out just because we were scared Shandy would burn the house down, kill the dogs or have a wild party but surprisingly, everything went pretty well.
  • Also cat-sat for my Dad and Janette. It was Janette's birthday and I drew a picture of Lucy for her. It was so-so. I was pretty happy with it. At least it got me drawing again.
  • 25th trapeze class. I've been going almost exactly a year now. I worked on my back-end hocks off again. I got better at it and ALMOST caught it both times, brushed Scout's fingers both times. But not quite! But I made progress!
  • Went down to Newport News to see a high school production of Phantom of the Opera. It was a rich, WASPy private high school so it was actually a really good version of the play. We saw Alex's parents briefly beforehand, also.
  • Today, March 11, 2012, Paul passed away from a tragic skiing accident. I ache for him and my sister.
  • Went to Sunbury, PA with Mom and Shandy for Paul's funeral. Tiffany, Richard, Debbie, Katie, Eric, Angie, my dad plus all of Jessica's friends and Paul's friends and family. There were a lot of people! It was a wonderful service. But so, so sad. I still can't believe that he's gone.
