the John's Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth program (CTY) is a summer nerdcamp for some of the smartest kids in the country. Luckily, i somehow got in and was able to spend the typical 4 years with it. These are just a few of the reasons why i love it.
- the kids. they're amazing and are just as nerdy as you, which means everyone understands each other perfectly. these are the most accepting/caring/funniest kids in the world. lifelong friendships are formed.
- the instructors. also amazing, and very passionate about what they're teaching. some of the most intelligent people ever.
- the classes. you learn way more in 3 weeks than you do all year back at your normal school.
- the RAs. residental assistants, there to make sure you have an amazing tyme, and who go out of their way to do it.
- the dances. where everyone knows all the canon songs and the canon dances that go along with them.
- silent football. the most nerdy game every invented, whose purpose is to be so confusing that you have to mess up.
- lanyards. the lanyard is necessary 24/7 and goes everywhere with you for 3 weeks. you grow attached to it.
- American Pie. the traditional last song played at the dances, everyone forms a cyrcle and chants "this'll be the day that i DIE DIE DIE DIE LIVE LIVE LIVE LIVE SEX SEX SEX SEX MORE MORE MORE MORE!!" in the chorus. extremely poignant.
- grass orgies. two or more people laying on eachother's stomachs in the grass, mostly on the quads.
- mandatory fun. weekend activities that are meant for your enjoyment but are really kind of boring and frivulous.
- Passionfruit. the Passionfruit ceremony is a traditional ceremony for Nevermore and Nomores (students who can't return). it takes place at 5 am on the last morning and everyone sits in a cyrcle and makes speeches. you end your speech with 'I love CTY and I love Passionfruit.' and everyone takes a sip of their cup of Passionfruit between tears.
