naruto dating sim (F/M, 18+, free, browser)

• overall: D+. enjoyment: A.
• a fanmade naruto sim from newgrounds back in 2005, featuring bad art, terrible porn, and a dumb premise. it has nonetheless become more or less infamous and withstood the test of time. ive played it an absurd number of times. you dont have to look at the porn unless you beat the game, and even then seeing the ending is optional, so i do actually recommend it.
• plot: F. it doesnt really have one. it drops you into chuunin exam era naruto and features a little blurb of sakura thinking about how she should make use of her time, despite the fact that shes already been disqualified at this point. there is no story to speak of.
• characters: C. its just the naruto characters, though theyre written a bit stereotypically. oh, and in case you were wondering, dont worry. the blurb at the beginning of the game makes sure to point out that you, genin sakura haruno, are 18 (apparently).
• writing: D. the dialogue is the only writing to speak of, and theres very little of it. theres some points of actually interesting character analysis, and then theres some times where lee will ask you if strength or speed is better and you just have to guess.
• routes: N/A
• gameplay: A. now, with a game that has no actual story, the gameplay becomes the key feature. and honestly? it succeeds with flying colors. this game is a pure stat raiser, with a battle minigame (in a DATING SIM.) that works very well, and has a startling amount of detail; every one of the generic gifts you buy to give the boys on dates actually has an in-battle effect, and theyre balanced surprisingly well. and another point of note--the game is difficult. if you dont know what youre doing, raising your stats properly before the end of the game, or muddling through battles with trial and error becomes a real puzzle. honestly? i have a lot of fun with it every time i return to it; even if youre very unlikely to figure out how to win the first couple times you play.
• art: F. poorly traced anime stills interlaced with the most pathetic attempts at drawing kisses/sex that ive ever seen. its genuinely disturbing.
