wonderland days sim date (F/M, free, /browser/)

  • overall: D. enjoyment: D.
  • wonderland days sim date is a pacthesis game inspired by alice in wonderland. alice (default name, but can be changed) falls into wonderland and is stuck for 30 days, with 5 wonderland themed boys to get to know in the meanwhile. now, if you know me at all you know pacthesis is practically my idol. she got me and likely countless other kids my age into game development back in the day, and i'd push for all her games to be mandatory to play. but i have to be objective -- and objectively speaking, this game has some problems. the art is pretty unfortunate, the gameplay -- while well-conceived -- is unbalanced and drags on, and frankly it just doesn't have the charm a wonderland story should.
  • plot: D. just like in the story this game is based on, alice falls into a hole while chasing the white rabbit and winds up trapped in wonderland. that's about as far as the plot carries over, however; from there, she just has to wait until the hole opens back up at the end of the month. the plot merely exists as an excuse to put alice in contact with the boys and give her a deadline, and it doesn't put a whole lot of effort into it.
  • characters: C. the characters are fairly charming, they have fleshed out lives, and mostly varied personalities and voices. though none of them really represent the characters they're inspired by, and the designs are a bit boring. elliot is the best looking one, but even he isnt exactly stand-out; he doesn't really even look like a king. but, they're all likable people and fun to talk to. ill give them that. but there's one thing i can't forgive. making an alice in wonderland dating sim and not including the queen of hearts is cowardice. it's a sin all it's own. but including the king?? even if he's just an OC; you know what you did.
  • writing: C. it's not bad. the dialogue shows off the characters personalities well. the romance is as well-paced as you could expect given the format, but the limits definitely show. its not exactly impressive, is the thing. and the protagonist herself is more or less a blank slate, which is something the later games improve on.
  • routes: elliot > lance > oliver > jack > clark
  • gameplay: D. ive long been a fan of the gameplay in pacthesis games. the exploration, interaction menus as opposed to VN gameplay, stats and money grinding and cheat codes. the date function is always a winner. its fun! that said, the older games are not as well balanced, and its annoying to only be able to talk to someone 5 times a day. on top of that, ive never liked that the dialogue repeats until you reply "correctly". talking to NPCs costing HP too despite having no benefit is frustrating too. maybe i just wanna talk to a cute girl, huh? i'm fast-forwarding to chrono days.
  • art: F. it's no secret that pacthesis games, especially the older ones, don't have the best art. this game is at the bottom of the spectrum. the eye for color is good, and alice looks okay more often than not, but the anatomy, faces, and just about everything on the boys is pretty bad. also, this is during the phase where she shaded everything with flash's "gradient" button. it's deeply unfortunate. the menu design and UI is not very good either, using default flash boxes and font for everything.
