- (this is an incomplete ranking. will be finalized when class is over)
- 8. The Tree of Life (a little too abstract for me. learning about the director's backstory made me like it more though. cast is insane and I love Jessica Chastain. she is beautiful as always.)
- 7. I Heart Huckabees (this was bizarre and I don't think a lot of people in class enjoyed this. but I did! I thought it was funny and a good intro to Buddhist ideas. would watch a whole spin-off of the Jaffes solving existential crises)
- 6. Gattaca (this movie is very stressful and imagining myself as Vincent or Jerome had me rocking back and forth in my chair. interesting as always though!)
- 6. The Matrix (so slick and HOT!!!! everything ab this movie is sexy. feels so ahead of its time. also it's just COOL. if you don't like this one...I don't trust you.)
- 5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (woof. this one was SAD. I appreciated what this movie had to say about memory and relationships. the b-plot honestly made me more upset than the a-plot. Mary get behind me!)
- 4. Whiplash (made me want to leap out of my skin. felt so real and tangible with a pulsing broken heart at the center. ending gave me nausea.)
- 3. Groundhog Day (yay changing one's life for the better! classic plot, great character work, funny as hell. perfect movie!)
- 2. It's a Wonderful Life (yippee!!!! a deeply spiritual and feel-good film about what it means to be happy. always a great reminder that we all have our place in the universe <3)
- 1. Fight Club (fucking GNARLY!!!!!!!!! gross and gritty direction and production design that fully situates you in the world. a plot twist that is ICONIQUE. performances that are world-shattering. this is everything to me. David Fincher u are the greatest)
