• Tomato soup (the Campbell's Healthy Choice variety, made with water-- never milk, stirred frequently over the stovetop on low heat, and seasoned with red pepper)
  • Minestrone (although he quality varies widely depending on the restaurant).
  • Some of those Thai soups with glass noodles. Mmmm...
  • Chicken noodle IF homemade, with freshly shopped carrots and celery
  • Lobster Bisque
    • There is a story behind this. I'll break it down:
      • I surprised my then-boyfriend/future fiance/current ex-and-best-friend by taking him to the Private Club Floor of the Ritz Carlton for one of his birthdays. It didn't cost a cent because the head chef of the Club Floor is my mom's best friend, "M."
    • Moreover, we had the Club Floor almost entirely to ourselves at the time (it has exclusive access, available only to VIP guests. And, luckily, me. My parents and I lived in the hotel for several months once when we relocated back to Michigan from Brazil, since we were still house-hunting. The hotel granted us access to the club floor when we lived there due to the length of our stay. That's how "M," the head of the Club Floor, became such a good family friend).
    • Anyway, the two of us sat at the window overlooking Henry Ford's sunflower field (it was on the other side of the small highway, but still a good view) and dined à la carte from the elegant buffet stations.
    • "M" doted on us with special service. She of course knew about my plan ahead of time and helped me arrange it.
    • And (drumroll please)...this is how he and I fell in love with Tomato Bisque soup.
      • Which, I might add, has never been as good since. No other place has been able to match it in quality.
