• Right now, in the heart of the winter season, it is difficult to think about spring and summer. But if you are a farmer or artisan by profession or by heart, it is the perfect time for you to start thinking of your summer plans. Next year, 2019, will be the eleventh year since the region has opened up its Syracuse Farmer’s Market.

As the winter season begins to melt away and the warmth of the sun starts to come back, farmers from all over the region will descend on the county bringing some of the best of their crops to sell at the Artisans & Farmers Market. Scheduled to open on Saturday, May 11th 2019, visitors will not only get their pick of the freshest produce they can find, but they will be able to cast their eyes on many of the beautiful displays of local art.

The market will be opened from the second Saturday in May and will end on the second Saturday in October. If you’re an artist or a farmer, you can look forward to mingling with a diverse but friendly community to showcase your products. If you are a patron, expect to find a host of hand-crafted items, fresh grown produce, and just a lot of good fun all around.

The Market has been managed by the Syracuse Parks & Recreation Department since it was established in 2009 by the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce. Every year since it opened, the community’s Saturdays have been filled with a bounty of wonderful things for everyone to enjoy. Their goal is to create an environment entirely benefited by the growers and producers of their own products. Not only will they be able to buy from local farmers but can be confident that their purchases will go to support local businesses (within 150 miles of Syracuse).

That means they will have a wide selection of farm fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, eggs, and cheeses that come from areas they are familiar with. Other prepared products will also come from your neighbors. Whether you’re a jewelry maker or a baker, if you produce in the region you can become a vendor. Mass marketed products, those that have been pre-manufactured, imported or commercially produced are not permitted. Shoppers can look forward to a real Farmers Market much like they had in the old times.

Each year, this event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Your experience won’t all be on buying and selling, you’ll get a chance to enjoy good food and good music. What would make the spring and summer months better than that?

People come from all around to take part in this celebration of life, so if you’re planning on being a part of this event and you’re out of the immediate area, consider spending that weekend at the Oakwood Resort. It is a place where you can enjoy life right on the banks of Lake Wawasee and take in all the local sights found in its picturesque setting.
