Mary Anning, the inspiration behind the 'sea shells seashells' rhyme, was born in 1800 and began to collect fossils from a young age. The Lyme Regis Museum has a permanent exhibition of her personal objects dedicated to Anning, and it is built on the location where her parents' house once stood.
The English parish of Berwick-Upon-Tweed contains its very own easter egg in the form of small, six-inch high emperor penguins graffitied around town. No one knows for certain who is responsible for painting these penguins, but they cropped up around the same time and rumors abound that their creator may have even been Banksy himself. These penguins were quickly and happily adopted by the community, who has rallied to fight against those who attempt to cover them up. Although many have been lost to time, there were at least six confirmed penguins as of 2019.
Tucked away in the roadside of Kingswear village resides a wishing well (once a drinking trough for horses) known for granting good luck. Successes attributed to the well include a non-stop naval circumnavigation of the world. The money within the well is donated to charity.
