I am two weeks deep into my first summer away from home and it already reeks of adulthood. Here are five adulty things that I've done for the first time this summer:

  • checked in, and stayed, at a hotel room by myself
  • cleaned my apartment's kitchen, from counter surfaces to expired refrigerator products
  • intentionally purchased/sought out toilet paper and garbage bags
  • experimented with meals for dinner, and then kept the leftovers to take for lunch
  • put away someone else's dishes

  • go fishing and catch something, then cook it up for dinner
  • go to happy hour with my co-workers
  • decide if I like West or East Glacier Trail better
  • boulder outside of a climbing gym
  • kayak auke bay/auke lake
  • learn to cook 10 new meals well
  • try a new food that initially sounds unappealing (looking at you, pickled sockeye)
  • read all the books I brought (~11)
  • fly on a seaplane

  • Chan's Thai Kitchen: 80% for my love of thai food, 20% for its proximity to my residence
  • Tracy's King Crab Shack: my roommates and I have celebratory plans to dine
  • The Rookery: extremely close to, and beloved by, work
  • Taqueria: 100% my love of mexican food
  • Island Pub: based on recommendations, this sounds good, but getting to Douglas shall be an adventure
  • Saffron Indian Comfort Cuisine: i love Indian food too
  • SALT: based on recommendations, their happy hour snacks are worthwhile
