⋄ ⌠ The Green Mile, 1999. ⌡

  • Paul Edgecomb: On the day of my judgment, when I stand before God, and he asks me, why did I kill one of his true miracles, what am I going to say? That it was my job? It’s my job.
  • John Coffey: You tell God the Father it was a kindness you done. I know you’re hurting and worrying. I can feel it on you. But you ought to quit on it now. I want it to be over and done with. I do. I’m tired, boss. I’m tired of being on the road and lonely as a sparrow in the rain. I’m tired of never having me a buddy to be with, to tell me where we’s going to, coming from, or why.

» Mostly, I’m tired of people being ugly to each other.

⋄ ⌠ Memoirs of a Geisha, 2005. ⌡

  • At the temple there is a poem called Loss carved into the stone. It has three words, but the poet has scratched them out.

» You cannot read loss, only feel it.

  • She paints her face to hide her face. Her eyes are deep water. It is not for Geisha to want. It is not for geisha to feel. Geisha is an artist of the floating world. She dances, she sings. She entertains you, whatever you want.

» The rest is shadows, the rest is secret.

  • I can see you have a great deal of water in your personality. Water never waits. It changes shape and flows around things, and finds the secret paths no one else has thought about -- the tiny hole through the roof or the bottom of the box. There's no doubt it's the most versatile of the five elements. It can wash away earth; it can put out fire; it can wear a piece of metal down and sweep it away. Even wood, which is its natural complement, can't survive without being nurtured by water.

» And yet, you haven't drawn on those strengths in living your life, have you?

⋄ ⌠ Into the Wild, 2007. ⌡

  • So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure.

» The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

  • I have lived through much, and now I think I have found what is needed for happiness. A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one’s neighbor – such is my idea of happiness.

» And then, on top of all that, you for a mate, and children, perhaps – what more can the heart of a man desire?

  • Happiness is only real when shared.

⋄ ⌠ V for vendetta, 2005. ⌡

  • V: The building is a symbol, as is the act of destroying it. Symbols are given power by people. Alone a symbol is meaningless,

» but with enough people, blowing up a building can change the world.

  • V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy.

» And ideas are bulletproof.
