That Touch of Mink

  • "Your story, it's not boring and ordinary, by the way. I mean, we just get the one life, you know? Just one. You can't live someone else's or think it's more important just because it's more dramatic. What happens matters. Maybe only to us, but it matters."

Ghost Town (2008)

  • “It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy… But in the end, it’s only a passing thing… A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer… Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.”

Sam (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers)

  • "You want me to creep away and become a nun? Well, I shall not. You want me to lie before God and admit my first marriage was consummated? Well, it was not. You want me to retire and withdraw my daughter's claim as sole rightful heir to the throne? Well I shall not. Not in a thousand years, not if you rack me to within an inch of my life. I am Katherine, Queen of England, the King's one true wife, and mother of the heir to the throne, beloved of the people, and beloved of a King you have bewitched."

Queen Katherine (The Other Boleyn Girl)

  • "My Lord, how have I offended you? For twenty years, I have been a true, obedient wife. I have loved all those whom you loved, and given you children, though it has pleased God to take them away. If there is any just cause that you can allege against me, I will happily depart to my shame and dishonor. But I tell you, as God is my witness, there is none. So, I beg you, dear husband, to spare me this humiliation. But if you will not, and I am to be tried… then let it be in a proper court and by the only authority I recognize. His Holiness himself—The Pope."

Queen Katherine (The Other Boleyn Girl)

  • "If anybody really believed the things I did on stage, they wouldn't clap, they'd scream."

Robert Angier (The Prestige)

  • "Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called The Pledge. The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course… it probably isn’t. The second act is called The Turn. The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you’re looking for the secret… but you won’t find it, because of course you’re not really looking. You don’t really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn’t clap yet. Because making something disappear isn’t enough; you have to bring it back. That’s why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call The Prestige."

Christopher Priest (The Prestige)

  • "She was a bit drunk which brings me to Rule Number 4, your honor. No girl should ever have a drink with a boy because if she does, the boy seems to think that if she can have a drink with me, then she won't mind sleeping with me. For girls, drinking alcohol means being available. Just for girls. Not for boys. This doesn't apply to boys. For the boys it's just a health hazard. So terms and conditions differ, your honor. Wearing jeans, t-shirts... skirts... Girls shouldn't be doing that. It doesn't harm them in any way but poses a deep threat to the boys. Poor boys get provoked on seeing them like this and without any fault of theirs the poor boys end up making mistakes. Until now, we've been making efforts in the wrong direction. We should save our boys, not our girls because if we save our boys, then our girls will be safe. Girls in the city shouldn't live separately. They should not live alone. Boys can. Not girls. Independent girls confuse boys. Girls should never smile during a conversation. In fact, even if they are giving good news, they should do so with a serious(grave) face. No mobiles for girls, don't educate them. Get them married early. et cetera, et cetera, et cetera! But I'm just... I am digressing, your honor. My client had had a few drinks and that could have perhaps been the cause of her intense action. That is all that happened. Repeatedly touching a girl inappropriately! What can a girl... do in such a situation? What do you expect her to do? This is called acting in self-defense. Not... causing grievous injury or attempt to murder, your honor. Not that at all."

Pink (2016)

  • "Even the so defined 'Modern day' girls are just girls at heart. When they go for dinner and drinks with a boy, they are going for an evening out. They don't know it goes with a sign(tag) of being 'available.' But even well-dressed, well-educated boys like him are prey to the feudal mentality. Dress, drinks––this decides availability. And those who violate these codes can be violated."

Pink (2016)

  • "You misunderstand. It is true I chose not to feel anything upon realizing my own life was ending. As Admiral Pike was dying, I joined with his consciousness and experienced what he felt at the moment of his passing: anger, confusion, loneliness, fear. I had experienced those feelings before, multiplied exponentially on the day my planet was destroyed. Such a feeling is something I choose never to experience again. Nyota, you mistake my choice not to feel as a reflection of my not caring. Well, I assure you, the truth is precisely the opposite."

Spock (Star Trek: Into Darkness)

  • James T. Kirk: "I watched you open fire in a room full of unarmed Starfleet officers. You killed them in cold blood."
  • Khan: "Marcus took my crew from me!"
  • James T. Kirk: You are a murderer!"
  • Khan: "He used my friends to control me. ...I tried to smuggle them to safety by concealing them in the very weapons I had designed. But I was discovered. I had no choice but to escape alone. And when I did, I had every reason to suspect that Marcus had killed every single one of the people I hold most dear. So I responded in kind. My crew is my family, Kirk. Is there anything you would not do for your family?"

from Star Trek: Into Darkness

  • James T. Kirk: "I'm scared, Spock. Help me not be. How do you choose not to feel?"
  • Spock: "I do not know. Right now, I am failing."
  • James T. Kirk: "I want you to know why I couldn't let you die... why I went back for you."
  • Spock: "Because you are my friend."

from Star Trek: Into Darkness
