compilation of misc. art tips, ranging from useless to slightly less useless; mainly just positivity because I feel its a nice thing to have. Not all of the tips listed can be applied to everyone who views them, but I hope you can find something of use! ^^
A lot of the things listed are easy to say, but are hard to adhere to in practice. Many people feel the need to place themselves to a higher standard, and that's not an entirely bad thing, but I do think sucking the joy out of everything just to "prove" a point (being good at particular things relating to art, creating a certain amount of art pieces in a set time, ect.) is something you should avoid if possible. Even if some art is an obligation to you (e.g., comms, trades, ect.) it's an ideal idea to set time aside to things you do find personal joy in (if that's what you aim to do, of course, everyone does art for a myriad of reasons).
- if you're having trouble drawing your own characters, draw other peoples chars! I get wrapped up trying to make art for my chars be "perfect" (not even perfect, just a particular way) that I forget to have fun; when I'm drawing other chars it makes it easier to not get caught up trying to insert hidden meanings or make it fit characters lore, because you don't really know the character!
- not being able to produce as much art as you'd like to is not a sign of you producing ""bad"" art, its typically a sign of improvement <3 putting more thought into your art is not a negative thing, nor is putting little no thought into it; the #1 goal is to have fun, because then you'll be making art you can find something positive in one way or another (even if the arts subject matter isn't positive)
- you do not need to continuously improve your art, that's something that occurs over time naturally
- when I do backgrounds, the further out in gets, it becomes line less, it brings less attention there and more to the front (where the characters would likely be)
- you are not a machine, make art when you want to, not because you feel you have to
- you do not need to adhere to a specific art style; if you're doing commissions be upfront about having a non-specific style/and if you're extremely concerned you can ask them to pick a particular style of yours they want replicated :3
