i need a place to vent my many thoughts. so i'm going to do that now...., here i will review literally anything i want to talk about. this also might just become a "explaining things in too much detail" list we'll see
FASHION DREAMER (video game, nintendo switch, 2023)
- first of all, i'm enjoying the game a lot more than i thought i would. my dearest friend fleshinald also bought this game and didn't quite enjoy it so i feared i would too, and because i'm too impatient to wait for things to go on sale i figured i'd never buy it because it didn't sound worth it. one day i was like "ok i really wanna play this" so i got it and that's how it started... my latest obsession.....
- the game itself is pretty repetitive i feel, the premise is to make outfits for other people, either npcs or other players (in online mode.) for a while i just played offline because i was scared of playing online but i think online is definitely better because it's easier to get new clothes that are interesting and unique.
- an aspect i enjoy is the ability to customize clothing, though it feels pretty limited and could be expanded. right now you can only change the color of items, but i think it'd be really neat if you could add patterns (maybe even custom ones) to your designs. another thing i like is how the clothes spread all over, making them pretty collectable.
- something i REALLY LIKE AND AM HAPPY FOR is that the in-game gacha, and like everything else is FREE of real world currency. you're probably thinking "this game was $50 why would they do that also why is this game $50" and i'm thinking the same thing. well i would personally prefer to overpay for this game and very much enjoy it (is it even overpaying at this point?) than play for cheaper, or free and have it cost real world money to get clothes. but clothes are super duper easy to get and collect in this game which is fantastic because so many dress-up type games usually have gachas you can spend hundreds of dollars on (in my experience)
- there are definitely things i think could be better, but i also haven't unlocked everything yet asfarasiknow (i just got lookbooks so i might update this later) but i guess the first thing is that the performance is a little sketchy. it lags when loading into things, which is fair for the switch i guess but also it lags for fun sometimes. i think in the dressing room it lags when going through all the clothes but when you hoard them like me that's not surprising. i fix it by filtering. i can also see how this game could be perceived as very boring and overpriced, so i won't argue those points because i think it may be up to personal preference.
- something else i don't like is how clothes are locked to body types. there are two body types, A & B, and they're basically feminine and masculine. there are ways you can modify these body types, like making them taller or... their neck longer. but items are locked to their body type, which makes sense but it would have been nice if this wasn't the case and i think it'd make the game a little more special.
- one more thing (for now) that i both love and fear is the ability to make lookits for other real people. real people in the game act the same as npcs (there's no real time contact) but you can suggest outfits to them and they'll see them. for me, this is really fun and really scary. it's super flattering when someone makes you an outfit but i worry all these high level players i see won't appreciate what i make for them because my style is wack. but that's my personal anxiety disorder talking so not the game's fault.
- ok so i'll end it for now...... but my current thoughts are that if you think this game would be fun, and you'd like to dress people up over and over and over and over and over and over to raise your friendship level (this seems like it takes forever) then go for it. but get it on sale. if i had the power to change anything about this game i'd make it possible to have green skin at the start without unlocking it because that'd be awesome.
