Slang; A type of informal verbal communication that is generally unacceptable for formal writing. Slang words and phrases are often colourful exaggerations used to emphasize the speaker's point; they may also be shortened versions of an often-used word or phrase.

- 'Ar kid - Brother/sibling, can be used to refer to a close friend who one classes as good as family 
- Ay-up! - Suprised but warm greeting 'Ay-up! What are you doing here?'

- Bletherin' on - Talking too much 
- Blumin'/bloomin' 'eck - Exclamation of surprise, usually negative 
- Boits - Boots 'Get ya boits on' 
- Brass - Money 'How much brass have yer got?' 
- Bray ya - Beat you/someone up 'I'm gonna bray ya' 
- Brayed - Been beaten up 'He got brayed' 
- Brew - Tea 
- Buggered - Tired 'I'm well buggered me' 
- By'eck - I'm shocked 
- Chuckie eggs - Fried eggs 
- Chuckin' it darn - in regards to rain 'It was throwing it down' 
- Chuddy - Chewing gum 
- Chuffed - Proud/Happy 
- Chuffin' 'ell - Fucking hell 
- Cloth ears - Someone who doesn't listen 
- Cowd - Cold 
- Cumf't day - A person who is visiting -'Come for the day'- 
- Darn't - Down the 'Darn't road' 
- Deard - Dead (rhymes with beard) 
- Deck yer - Knock you to the ground 
- Dint'a - Didn't I 'I did that dint'a' 
- Dollop - Lump of something 'Dollop of sauce' 
- Doss/Dosser - Thick/Dumb or to 'Skive' relax/take time off work/school when you shouldn't 
- Doylum - Idiot 
- Dozy twat - Sleepy/dumb idiot 
- Duddy/Dodie - Child's dummy/pacifier 
- Ee by gum! - Expression of exclamation which is often replied to with 'Can ya belly touch ya bum' 
- Eggy soldiers - Boiled eggs with toast cut into thin slices to dip in yolk 
- Eya right - Expression used at the start of a sentence or used to get someone's attention 'Eya right, I was eating mah tea when...' 
- Eya! - Hold on a minute! 
- Folk - People 
- Gig's - Glasses, 'gigger' nickname given to someone wearing glasses 
- Ginner - Pronounced 'Jinner', ginger haired 
- Gob - Mouth 
- Gret big - Great big 
- Knackers - Testicles 
- Lake around - Lazy/Laze around 
- Lass - Young woman 
- Lugole - Ear hole 
- Mardy - Miserable, petty 'Mardy bum' miserable person 
- Ma'sell/Mi'sell/Mi'sen/Ma'sen - Myself 'I hurt ma'sen' 
- Maungy - Moody 'Maungy git' moody person 
- Mi - Mi 
- Mind - Remember/Think/Move/Take care
