Far from mainland Japan, there’s a small island where oni and humans co-exist which has two gates connected to the afterlife. The entrance is located within the human’s territory and exit in the oni’s lands. The two groups struck a deal in the past whereby the oni protect the humans by defeating the “apparitions” – which are supposedly evil souls that escape from the afterlife via the oni’s gate. The human’s part of the deal is that their shrine maiden must maintain the power of the two gates and make magatama that the oni use to help them fight the “apparitions”. However, due to past tragedies, the humans and oni despise each other and try to stay as separate as possible

• Carlisle has short wavy blonde hair, blue round doll-like eyes and a time seal tattoo's on his right arm after he becomes a Guardian of Shrine. His preferred clothes in his earliest appearances include a dusty brown cloak that wraps around his head and covers his ears, khaki-colored shirt, black long-sleeved undershirt, neck wrap, black pants, boots, and gloves. His clothing choices become more dignified and formal over the course, though he always prefers darker colors to better sneak around in at night and a neck wrap of some kind.

• At first, he found didn't fit him to have a duty controlled and protect the shrine, as well as dealing with Devils (oni). But after took several months, he had found some excitements. Taking a stroll into Oni village and talk with them as normal society

• Carlisle, whilst seemingly low-tempered is a loving young boy, friendly, that treats everyone; the Cursed Oni Children (Child from Oni and Human) as equal. However, under pressure and when in situations where he has no control over, he acts towards them like most of society, even to the point of solely watching a cursed child being abused by humans and slapping their hand away in an un-wantonly manner. Albeit, he does repent over his actions and later helps the child that was left at the gates of death by human/oni hand.
• As the new shrine Guardian, whom is slightly nervous about taking the role, though he had a family bloodline of shrine protector, he was unexperienced. He has a tendency to think of others before himself and is always willing to help out someone in trouble. Unlike most humans, he doesn’t have any prejudice against the oni.
