I've never properly watched an anime before, but I decided to pick up Sasaki and Miyano on a whim because the concept of a fudanshi pulling a dude by lending him his BL stash was too funny for me to turn down.
When I was bummed out recently, I saw it for myself and was kind of shocked that I really, really liked it. Loved it, actually. I adore how unabashedly cringe yet tender it is, and the comedy and voice acting (in the dub, anyway; it's the one I watched) are on point.
Aside from the leads, my favourite is Hirano because he constantly looks and sounds so done with everything. Buuut I can't go too long without talking about the leads because they're AWESOME! While they both lean into tropes at times, they aren't reduced to them, which keeps this admittedly silly series fairly grounded.
Sasaki is a delight in equal parts for his VA killing it (you can feel him going :3 while recording) and his personality: he's a lovable idiot and a goofball and such a sweetheart. Truly the definition of a golden retriever boy... even if Miyano thinks of him as a catboy instead. (True story!)
Miyano makes me feel oddly seen as a sardonic geek who's just as passionate as he is cripplingly embarrassed of how he spends his time. It's so nice to see his confidence grow over the course of the series, and best of all, he spits TRUTH ("maybe some headcanons should stay in your head").
So how's it life-changing? I'm a fudanshi now. Well, more like the knockoff kind, but I've got the spirit, I think.
Update: I saw the Graduation Arc movie and it was exactly what I wanted... tooth-rottingly sweet. But I was ROBBED of seeing them cuddling :( not cool man. AO3 here I come
