• Running:
    • A young kitten drinking from a pink bowl.
    • A fight starting on the beach at about 2 A.M.
    • A power outage while I was running down an already dark street.
    • Running about six miles in pouring rain, then coming home and making hot chocolate.
    • Squirrels running in opposite directions along a power line and jumping over each other.
    • Sprinting up the steep ramps along the beach at the end of a run.
    • Being cooled by a sea breeze.
    • Running when the fog is so thick you can hardly see fifteen feet in front of you.
  • Hiking:
    • A huge swarm of bees flying directly in front of me perpendicular to the trail.
    • Lots of lizards and a goodly number of snakes.
    • Being out of breath due to seeing a fantastic view.
    • Finding an old rarely used trail about half a mile long that was completely overgrown with eight foot tall plants we had to fight through. It took months to get all the little thorns out of my shoes.
    • Small creeks off the trail to rest by.
    • A hawk killing some kind of pigeon. The hawk grabbed it in midair then crushed it on the ground.
  • Backpacking:
    • A bear! It ran away.
    • A couple coyotes. Mostly I just hear them at night because they won't STFU.
    • Some guy's tent literally blowing away.
    • At the top of Mount Whitney, a couple eighty-something year old guys who were going for all the major peaks in California.
    • Being out of breath after walking a hundred yards because the air is so thin 13,000 feet up.
    • Actually falling asleep. I think it's happened once or twice.
    • Rude people, never seen one.
