I know people use kinning now as meaning they relate to a character but I learned the term when it meant you are that person/thing so I have a different term that I use! If something is a shape ("me-shaped") that means I identify with, find comfort in, and/or am very fixated on that thing. A shape is somewhere between a classic kin and a comfort character; in rare cases it gets pretty close to the classic definition of kin, but I opt not to use 'kin' to describe myself.
