Glycolic Acid Peel Notes

  • 30% Gycolic Acid Peel
  • Only after fungal acne is mostly cleared, start using a glycolic peel for PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) and glowing/brightening skin.
  • Use the peel every other week (2x monthly) within 4 months. This is a "session" of 8 peels.
  • For the 4 months, refrain from AHA/BHA's, acids, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, urea, and retinoids. Only exception is a vitamin C serum after 2 days.
  • Skipping sunscreen will cause bad peeling, flaking, and extreme sensitivity. Never skip sunscreen. Use more than usual.
  • Instructions:
    • Prep skin by cleansing with a mild cleanser and tone with witch hazel.
    • Prepare a large bowl of 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 parts water, with a washcloth soaked in, to neutralize the peel.
    • Apply vaseline/aquaphor on eyebrows and near both eyelids.
    • Soak cotton gauze pad with the glycolic acid, squeeze excess on a towel. Don't dab or swipe across face, just pat once. Start from forehead then t-zone, nose, chin, and cheeks.
    • Time for 3 minutes for the first peel. Subsequent peels can be for 5 minutes or 8 minutes max. It'll burn and sting, soothe by "fanning" face with a folder.
    • Once the timer ends, splash face with the baking soda-water neutralizer. Don't rub it in, just splash it. Take the soaked washcloth and let it sit on face for a few seconds to take off all the acid. Lastly, rinse with cold water.
    • Stick to a soothing toner and light moisturizer and try to stay away from the sun for the next three days. Otherwise, use a generous amount of sunscreen.

Notes

  • Cross check ingrediets with Sezia and Folliculitis Scout
  • SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN, NEVER SKIP IT!!!! At least two finges length worth.
  • Wear Solbari Driving Gloves UPF50+ when driving/walking. With short sleeve/no shirt tops, wear a shoulder wrap underneath it or shawl.
  • On really hot days, opt for a sun umbrella/parasol or a lightweight UPF 50+ jacket outdoors
  • Throw away vitamin C serums that are oxidized, it'll look yellow/orange-amber and might have a tacky smell. Normally, it should look transparent and have zero smell
  • Essences always have a watery liquid consistency whereas serums will always be more thicker and and a bit more viscous
  • Thinner/watery/easily-absorbed products go before heavier/thicker/ products
  • Consistent mild peels like 30% glycolic acid have results which are no different from stronger chemical peels (TCA/Jessner's), are less downtime, and don't cause extreme peeling/flaking
  • Never mix copper peptides serums with vitamin c as they will cancel each other out. Stick to copper peptides serums at night and vitamin c in the morning.
