Thoughts (RANT & SPOILERS): I would have enjoyed this book more if I had actually liked the characters, but was just completely turned off by how FUCKING STUPID the majority of the characters were. Altogether there were like 10 characters and 3 of whom were competent enough to have survived. Basic maths 3/10 is 30%. That leaves 70% of just idiots!!! That's a fail grade right there. Like I can understand wanting to know more about whats happening with this ship, like who the captain is, why its empty and all that for the sake of plot development. But when 3 of your collegues end up dying all for the same reason of stick their nose in other peoples business.
Wouldn't you think 'okay 3 of my friends died for going out of their way to expose the secrets of the captain and the ship, I'm just going to chill in my bed and leave only to eat!!' but no these people decide 'ohhh the ship killed by friends im going to go and kill the captain for doing that' Jesus fucking christ karen. There was this one scene where 5 of the remaining people as well as the captain are floating outside the ship to repair it due to the 2 dumbasses who tried to hack the system and expose the secrets of the ship and end up unlocking the airseal to a ships section which causes damage to the ship, and one of the guys ends up sneaking away from the group to get into the ship and starts lasering the door to get into the control room or something and notices an eye just watching him. So he like ignores it and just continues lasering. The AI turns out is killing everyone and kills the guy by decapitating him with the laser he was using and when the others start hearing him dying over the connection link between them the other 2 astronauts start blaming the captain like 'this is all your fault blah blah blah' and start heading into the ship despite everyone else telling them not to because he's probably already dead and NOPE they still go in and guess what?? They die. SHOCKER. The story was okay but I just couldn't with these characters. I don'y think I have ever rolled my eyes more at the actions of a bunch of characters more than this but lo and behold.
I remember buying this book at Dymocks in Sydney because I watched Game of Thrones and was just thinking 'well it must be good if he wrote A Song of Ice and Fire' but turns out he wrote Nightflyers before ASOIAF so maybe it was a turning phase?? Dunno ' RANT OVER
Reread?: Fck no
Recommend?: if you dont focus on characters as much as i do yeah but if not then nope
