thoughts: here is the review i left up on good reads

i am a big lover of horror; specifically horror anime and manga, comics and the like. surprisingly, out of all places i saw this recommended on tiktok -- and immediately fell in love with the art style and had to read it immediately. although, i'm not going to write anything that gives the plot away entirely because i think it's better to go into this without any prior knowledge!!

when it comes to horror, i tend to be quite picky as i don't necessarily get spooked by things. i mean this in the sense that i don't tend to that about what i've watched/read after i've consumed it because the scary parts don't stick with me. this wasn't the case with 'the horizon'. in some ways, the horizon reminds me of 'fuan no tane', which is another favourite of mine due to its sheer absurdness.

i felt genuinely unsettled the entire time i was reading; from the beginning, right until the end. the atmosphere and the way in which the characters and the world were drawn adds to this unshakable, creepy vibe that never really seems to go away. the world building is amazing, and you really do feel for the characters as the story progresses. the narrative is centred around 'the boy' and 'the girl' and their quest to keep moving forward despite their circumstances. i couldn't imagine being their age and trying to face a dystopian world on my own. it's been hours and i can't stop thinking about the girl and her story toward the end. it definitely stuck with me.

it's a short, interesting read-22 chapters-one that i will find myself coming back to in due time. if i could go back and read this again for the first time, i would.

memorable moments:

    • the boy and the girl meeting for the first time
    • the girl meeting the man in the basement
    • the girl's back story
    • the boy and the girl agreeing to marry each other

would i read this book again?: ABSOLUTELY

would i recommend this book?: yes! i recommended this book to laura directly after i read it!! i would recommend anyone who loves horror/thriller to read this !
