Summary: A memoir written by musician Dave Grohl based on his experiences growing up in rural Virginia, being introduced to punk rock music, touring at age 17 with a band, being the drummer of Nirvana, to starting the Foo Fighters after Kurt Cobain's death, and becoming a father.
Thoughts: This was one of the few books I've ever read in which I was sad that it wasn't longer. I've recently been listening to a lot of Nirvana and Foo Fighters so when I found that Dave Grohl wrote a memoir I went to buy it on Amazon. And BOY was I not disappointed!!! Honestly, Dave has a way of storytelling that can make you vividly picture in your head what he's describing and that's probably why I was enjoying this book so much.
Honestly, his life in his first band 'Scream' as well his time in Nirvana were some of the most interesting parts of the story. That, and his experiences in the house that he bought in Seattle that was probably haunted. It also tells of the times when he barley had any money to buy food and was basically sleeping on the floors in acquaintances houses and rationing 3 for like $1 corn dogs that he bought across the road from where he was rooming with Kurt.
His story also makes you respect him so much more as a musician, as he never really strayed away from his roots and to this day is one of the most humble celebrities out there. Even after quitting drugs at 20 He never really took hard drugs throughout his life even though the people around him were deep in the midst of it. (Eg, his childhood best friend, as well as his bandmate and lead singer Kurt Cobain.)He also never had proper training with the drums and taught himself so much respect there.
Overall,I'd HIGHLY recommend this book. Honestly, this is the second memoir/ biography I've ever read after the one about River Phoenix and I'm super worried that this one has set the bar too high that I'll never be able to appreciate memoirs after this!!!
Overall: 100/10
