genre: classics, thriller, horror, feminism, mental health, short stories (I don't think it's true horror - but in a way it does have those elements in which would set fear in the reader)
summary: A short story about a woman in confinement forced into rest after childbirth and her thoughts on the lead up to insanity.
thoughts: This was a really solid short story that was followed by an afterword detailing thoughts of others on the short story. The whole short story encompassed the theme of female subordination. It was told in a very chilling point of view in which the imagery played on most of the 5 senses. It started out with only sight but then brought in smell and touch. I think this was a good way to truly bring my mindset (as the reader) to be highly connected to that of the narrator. In doing this, I honestly felt trapped with the narrator. In the afterword, it was described as 'poe-esque' and I completely agree with that. It gave the same vibes as an Edgar Allan Poe poem and is probably why I did enjoy this short story. Thrilling & captivating.
