Working Out As an exercise enthusiast, Alexander Pis-Dudot offers the following tips for staying in shape.

  • If you hate to workout, then approach your exercise program from the point of fun. Ask yourself what you enjoy, and see if there is a way to become more physically active. For instance, if you like nature, then you may enjoy walking, bicycling, or hiking. If the ocean fascinates you, then start swimming and take a scuba course.
  • If you lead a very sedentary lifestyle, talk with your doctor before undertaking a program of physical activity.
  • Start slowly, performing gentle exercise a few days a week and working your way up to more intense and sustained sessions.
  • Always warm up prior to exercise by performing five to ten minutes of light motion that gradually increases in intensity. Cool down afterwards by gradually decreasing the intensity of your activity. Stretch after every exercise session. By doing this, you can avoid injury and overtraining.
  • A comprehensive fitness program includes exercise that improves your cardiovascular endurance, as well as strength and flexibility training.
  • High-intensity interval training provides a way to improve cardiovascular fitness and fat burning in a relatively quick workout.
  • When you perform strength training activities, such as calisthenics or weight lifting, you place small tears in your muscles. As the tears heal, your muscles become stronger. In order to facilitate healing, rest between workout sessions is essential. Leave at least 48 hours between strength training activities for the same muscle groups.
  • When weight training, balance complementary muscle groups. For instance, the biceps and triceps are complimentary muscle groups in your arm, and quadriceps and hamstrings are complimentary muscle groups in your legs. Seek balanced training in order to avoid injury. Additionally, work both upper and lower body rather than just focusing on one.
  • Schedule an appointment with a personal trainer, who can provide a comprehensive physical plan tailored to meet your goals and work with any physical challenges you may have.
  • Eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of fluids.
