the story involves three distinct lives. A young British man from a wealthy family, William, who is passionate about Asian culture and art, sees the opportunity to get to know it more closely when his Japanese friend, a merchant, invites him to travel to Japan. He boards a ship from Japan to look for treasures from the Far East, but ends up shipwrecked during a storm and ends up on the exotic island of Tamra (Jeju). Despite the different languages, he falls in love with a girl, Beojin, a beautiful but clumsy young diver, suffers from not having inherited the skill of a good diver from her mother. However, because it is a tradition of the women of the village, she has been forced to follow this path, no matter how much she doesn't want to. Frustrated with all this, she dreams of being able to go far away, as far as the sea can reach. However, Park Kyu, an arrogant, exiled noble, won't let William take Beojin without a fight. But most importantly, all of their lives are on the line if government officials find out there's a foreigner on the island. A mysterious Japanese sailor from the East India Company and an iron lady merchant plotting an insurrection, the small island of Tamra is suddenly submerged in romance, confusion and adventure!

While the investigative and historical part was well conducted, the same cannot be said of the romantic part. The love triangle remained undefined throughout practically the entire story, which on the one hand escapes common sense in k-dramas, in which we already know in advance who the girl will end up with, but on the other hand it makes following the story very tiring. The second part of the story was practically just about choosing the girl and the only thing that saved it was the investigation into illegal trade, which despite this was relegated to the background and had its conclusion conducted in a hurried way only in the last chapter.
