COUNTER:

  • Banana/Plantains

  • Onions and Potatoes
    • DON'T STORE THEM TOGETHER
  • Tomatoes

VEGETABLE BROTH:

  • Carrot tops
  • Celery Bottoms
  • Garlic Skin
  • Onion Skin
  • Afterwards: COMPOST (no fats/large amounts of salt)

REFRIGERATOR:

  • Apple and Citrus in fridge
    • Enjoyed at room temperature.
  • Asparagus - Store like flowers, cut ends off
  • Avocados - ripe faster on counter
  • Basil plant the best!
  • BERRIES
    • Strawberries: vinegar bath (1:5 ratio) put in container with towel, do not seal
    • Blackberries, blueberries, & raspberries: ONLY WASH BEFORE IMMEDIATELY EATING
  • Broccoli/Cauliflower in towel before storing in bag
  • Carrots/Celery - cut them up, put in container, filled with water, put in fridge (change water every couple of days)
  • Cucumber (whole) - wrap in towel before storing in stasher bag to keep them dry)
  • HERBS - Store like flowers (not basil)
    • add 1/4 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to keep them fresher longer
  • Leafy Greens - wash and wrap in towel to preserve freshness or buy Jenn Im container
  • Milk - deep end, bottom shelf
  • Mushrooms: poke holes in container they come in
    • If buying bulk, store in paper bag/cloth bag

NOT IDEAL TO STORE CERTAIN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES TOGETHER

CRISPER DRAWERS:

  • Fruit - low humidity setting
  • line with a towel (absorb moisture)
  • Vegetables high humidity setting

OR

  • Avoid overpacking drawers (no airflow) - 3/4 full at most
  • Low - spoil, high - wilt

FREEZER:

  • Ginger: Freeze and grate/peel
    • Refrigerator - wipe dry before storing
  • nuts and seeds

CLOTH BAG HACK: old t-shirts cut up and made into bags

Regrow vegetables if you want.
