The first song I heard by MS MR was Dark Doo Wop. It was featured on the Blogged50 Songza playlist, one of the best playlists I have found to date, and I immediately wanted to hear more from the duo. It was dark, mysterious- almost had me bopping.
By far Glass Nor Stone. Lilah Larson did an exceptional job with the lyrics and they are so clearly relatable that it almost feels biographical. It also has this great folk vibe going to it- it's like a quilt of these magical, wonderful people who are feeling your pain and strength all at once and it keeps you warm, it really does.
I am so glad I got Devendra for this one, because he is the beast of all lyrical mastery, but it would be really difficult to condense specific lyrics that are my favorite. In summation though, I'd go with A: I wanna see you be the one whose first light/ Harbors in the new day/and see you settle into yourself/and never be afraid/Now I take everything as a good sign, because I'm in love I take everything as a sign, from God..." and B: Well, when I'm in a womb I know what to call you now/And, when a belly blooms I know what to call you now/Hey, mama wolf/When I'm in St.Marie I know what to call you now/Swimming in the sea I know what to call you now/When you swim with me I know what to call you now/When you're under me I know what to call you now/Hey, mama wolf. There are so many others, though.
I've always felt a certain affinity towards Between Two Lungs. The drum at the beginning seems to rejuvenate me and in this relatively melancholic way, quite paradoxically, I become spirited and lifted and just want to wave my arms about and jump and sing.
I really have no idea when and where I came across Miniature Tigers. For a while I was listening to stuff that sounded like it came out of a juke box and I think a music likeness generator may have spawned me a lead to Miniature Tigers. But however I was led to them, Amen, because I cannot get enough of that sweet, perverted swing.
I barely remember now. I used to dig through the internet to find underground music that I could really see myself through, and somehow I generated Flo's stuff. I've been a fan of hers since her initial basement banging and spoon rattling, which is when I thought she had the most life and bubble and bang to her voice. She was so pure and full of internal spirituality then.
I quite like Beast because it is tender and sad in a very romantic way, but also makes your hair stand up a little with the piano entrails.
No I've never seen Laura live! I don't think I'd really enjoy her live either. She's someone I love wholeheartedly for some songs, and dismay in the next, so a live performance would probably strike out my passion for those certain twangs she does happen to do right.
She's a new artist and therefore only has one album out currently: Devotion. It's a wonderful R&B revival and I think she could work her way into redefining pop with bashes such as Wildest Moments [and thank you if you do that, Jessie Ware.]
Tough pick, but I think Open. It's so delicate and sensitive. It's hard sometimes for a male to expose such utter delicacy and sensuality through a voice in a song, and sometimes it comes across as corny or overcompensating rather than beautiful, but this man has a way of relating to his estrogen levels in a way that makes him more man than the manliest and more beautiful that the sinner women of the world. He raises the hairs on your neck. He understands what it is to touch a woman, and he portrays it so well, that you know Open is art.
Again, through Blogged50 on Songza. At first I thought Purity Ring was so eccentric- didn't like it. But the more I heard Fineshrine the more I wanted to tear out my heart and sing along.
Probably around 2 yrs. now.
No! And I never would! The only band I HAVE seen live on the list is Sons of an Illustrious Father.
No, but she's Danish so that would be really cool.
They're new so they only have one album currently and that's WOMAN. It's a piece of mastery, let me tell you.
Jessie Ware honestly sucks at lyrics. I just realized that I probably should have gone with RUMER as my R&B baby pick, because I love Rumer almost 1000x more but somehow forgot about her.
Oh man. A tie between Egyptian Robes and Lolita. But Lolita is really, really, really catchy so... dibs on Lolita, then.
Never but that is something I would love to see.
Florence and the Machine, hands down.
Sophia. Such a great kickin' song.
